I was diagnosed two weeks ago with SLE. My symptoms are mainly muscle and joint affected. I am mostly bedridden and definitely housebound unless we go to Walmart and I can use a cart to tool around in. My Hubby says he needs to make me a sign to put on my back saying "Student Driver". I have almost knocked over only four shelves.

I have trouble with mental clarity. I cannot open a water bottle and if I step outside I get stuck out there because I cannot open the door.

So thats my intro in a nutshell

What medications are you taking for SLE? I am taking Predisone and Plaquenil. I hate the side effects!

I am so sorry for your pain. I understand it and have lived through it. When I started plaquinil, I was in the same boat you are in. After tthree or four months and getting ten hours of sleep at night, life got better. I also took nonprescription naproxen sodium for pain. I highly recommend getting to a university hospital. That is where the best of the best are.

Hi,

I know the side effects are scary, but trust me, the quality of life is much better and you owe that to your family. Plaquinil is side effect free after a couple of weeks. The nausea goes away. Steroids are a different story. I have been on them for 3 years, daily. I am not getting off and starting a stronger medication, Imuran to continue treatment. However, the steroids work well, and have kept me going for several years. It's only weight gain and that is not near as important as being able to be with loved ones and live our lives.

With peace and Hope,

Beth

I cannot take steroids. I am on Lyrica and Celebrex and Naproxin.

I have taken all three of those. I'm glad you aren't on steroids. The Lyrica helped me , but I was told that it takes a couple of weeks for it to really help. I was on celebrex, but the Dr at the university recommended just try to naproxen without the celebrex. But, it took both for me to get back up and running. The Plaquinil was the first 'lupus' medicine he put me one and it really, really help. You might ask the doctor about that. Let me know if I can help in anyway.
With peace and Hope,

Beth
