Hi. I just wanted to say welcome to you. I'm not diabetic (that's one thing not on my list of many problems, lol! I know there are some very sweet people on this site who can relate, and will be happy to help you. Give them a minute-someone always responds. If I can help in any way, let me know. Take care.

Welcome Nanny, I am happy you found us. This is a great group and everyone is so supportive. I don't have diabetes and like Tawaii said it isn't on my list yet. I can only imagine what it must be like for you to deal with both Lupus and Diabetes. Is your Diabetes due to steroids or did you have it before you had Lupus? It is just the topic of another post that we had recently. I know someone will check in that also has diabetes and I am sure that will be a big help for you.

Hi Susan, as you can see, we have great people on this site. The people here are amazing and very caring. I also do not have diabetes but hopefully someone will be along soon. Has your doctor found which meds will help you? Sometimes this can take awhile. I hope you post often.

Alison

Thanks, The doctor is still trying things, being an insulin dependent diabetic a lot of meds will make my blood sugars go up. I have worked very hard at getting that under control. I have had an insulin pump for about 18 months and my A1C is 6.1 (which is about the same as a non diabetic)

Susan, I think having a 6.1 A1C is amazing for an IDDM. If that is any sign of how you handle Lupus I think you will do and awesome job. Does the pump you have allow for continuous blood sugar monitoring because that would help you so much with keeping control. I know that people who have that feature on their pump actually have lower A1C than people who do fingersticks several times a day. It might also help with the hyperglycemic side effects of some of the Lupus meds. I hope you do really well with this and you will be a great resource for our group because it seems not many of us have Diabetes. So it will be great for you to be able to help anyone going through it. Good luck.

Hi Susan. Welcome to the group. I was diagnosed with lupus several weeks ago. I have had diabetis type II for about a year. Previous to my diagnosis I noticed that the diabetic neuropathy was becomming more painfull and was really slowing me down. Even though the plaquenil helps, the pain of walking or simply moving around can get very frustrating. It is definetely affecting my life style. However, since the symptoms of lupus seem to be unique to each person, what is going on with me may not be true in your case at all.

I have chronic kidney disease and since most oral medications for diabetis affect the kidneys, I have to inject insulin twice daily. Taking care of my diabetis very much affects my lupus and my kidneys and to some degree the muscle strain I experience.

I wish you well and look forward to reading your posts.

Take good care of yourself.

Hope,

I'm also suffering from neuropathy in my legs and feet. I'm also suffering from lupus joint pain in my ankles and feet.

How do you deal with the pain? How do you deal with not being able to walk very far?

I'm getting to the point I might need a wheelchair if this keeps getting worse!!
