My 8 year old daughter knew I had been feeling bad and had been going to the doctor to figure out why. So, I get the Lupus diagnosis and call my hubby and cry hysterically. I get home and we sit down with our daughter. I start out by trying to explain about the good soldiers in my body getting confused about who is the enemy, etc. My husband cuts in and looks very seriously at her and says, "It's like this honey. Lupus comes from the Latin word for wolf. This means that when the moon is full . . [pause for dramatic effect] . . your mother will turn into a werewolf . . [extended silence]." She looks at me and says, "Is that true, mommy?" Yes, yes it is honey. My husband still calls me Wolfie. |
