I'm 49, the wife of a wonderfully sweet man for 25 years, the mother of some truly praiseworthy children, and the grandmother of the some of the cutest tots ever. And I was diagnosed by my rheumatologist with Lupus on 5/19/08. It took me 2 weeks to take it all in (major denial). But I finally realized all the weird stuff I've been going through for the past several years: arthritis, foggy head, depression, fever for no reason, odd pains, fatigue, etc.; now there's a name for it and it's not just me imagining things. My symptoms are quite tame compared to what some of you go through on a daily basis. What happens next, I don't know. That's one of the reasons I'm here. Hoping to glean wisdom from those who have already traveled this part of the road. I welcome your comments.

Hi, I'm 49 but on Father's day I will turn 50 Yikes!! I have had lupus for l5 years and when I was first diagnosed it was joint pain and skin problems since that time it has evolved into perihperal and central nervous system lupus. I too suffer from brain fog-confusion-I have had 3 brain hemorrhage's now and suffer from small seizures. I still get a little depressed but for the most part I have a very positive attitude and I believe that helps me get through the days. Its just frustrating for me not to be in the sun and under artificial lights. I am on cellcept and Imuran and small doses now of Prednisone. I have a wonderful family My husband and son that help me at home and I have a daughter who lives about 4 hours north of us and any day now is going to have her first baby (I'll be a first time grandma) yipee!! My son is 27 and is a big help with household chores and other tasks.

I try to rest everyday and take my meds and I do still go through some pretty bad flares but I always get through them. Good luck to you.

Eva

Thanks for the information, Eva. Maybe the grandbaby will have your birthday too. We found out this week my daughter is expecting her 2nd baby. We're hoping for a girl this time, so many boys already in our family. My rheumy has me on Plaquenil and Prednisone right now. In October I'll drop the prednisone and just take the other if everything goes to plan. It's good to find others who are going through the same stuff.

They started me on plaquenil but ended up being allergic to it. I have been on many medications but the ones I'm taking seem to be working fairly well. I had been on 60 mgs of Prednisone but when I had my first brain bleed I ended up in the hospital for several days and they decreased my prednisone to 20 mgs. I than suffered another bleed and my doc. bumped me up to 60 again. Now my rheumy wants me off so am alternating days of 3 and 4 than next month I will be on 3 all month than in August I will do alternating 3 and 2 and so on. I've been on prednisone for 15 years so would like to get off the only problem is when I flare the only thing that helps is a dose of 20 mgs. for 3 days and sometimes thats not enough oh well, what do ya do. I hope things go well for you it sounds like your rheumy is on top of things. I have a wonderful rheumy who is a teaching doc. and is up to date on all meds. I've been seeing her since l996. I was misdiagnosed from l993 to l996 with RA and was treated for that illness from another rheumy who I did not like and than I found the one I have and she is great. My daughter doesn't want her baby boy to be born on my b.d. she wants him to have his own but it is father's day and what a wonderful gift that would be. I was actually born on father's day and came two months early so my parents were surely surprised. You have a wonderful evening and its been a pleasure writing to you.

Eva
