I have had Lupus/Fibro for 3 yrs. now. I've noticed that I have a problem now with my eyes. I cant seem to focus that well anymore. I get blurred vision more often and I also have bad ringing in my ears. I was told by my doc. that I now have Vertigo another onset from Lupus and another medication to add as well.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have always had occasional bouts of vertigo.Way before I started take meds. None of my doctors ever said it might be related to lupus. But, looking into it, I see their might be a connection. I guess I don't have much to ad, just I am a person with similar symptoms.

You should talk to your doc. about the symptoms you have. I looked up Vertigo and it does say that it can be brought on by a Systemic Disease. My doc. put me on a med. to help control it but it still causes me to loose my balance. Just check into it.

I don't have that symptom very often. And it comes and goes fairly quickly. When I do complain about it, I am told because it is so sporadic, it is better not taking anything for it. But, when it bothers my stomach, it is so hard to make to the bathroom, when everything is spinning. I just had no idea the two could be linked

I have severe vertigo especially when I'm in a flare. It is due to my central and peripheral nervous system lupus. I too have ringing or I should say a loud humming in my head and am also have a problem with hearing out of my right ear. My problems are with the right side of my head. I also have blurred vision and am now using glasses. I've had vertigo since 2001. At first we thought it was due to an inner ear problem and eventually my doctors discovered it was lupus. I have fallen many times in my home because of the spinning. I try to be very careful. I take a drug called "neurontin" and its for seizures and helps with the nerves since they are affected by lupus. This medication seems to help, but when I'm in severe vertigo mode the only thing that helps is increase in Prednisone which I hate and doctor is trying to tapper me off. Hopefully this won't last long with you. Take Care

Eva

Thank you for your response Eva. I to am on medication for the Vertigo but it is Meclizine. It does help control the spinning for the most part but it also makes me sleepy. I was on Prednisone for a 1 1/2 yrs. I hated it. I gained so much weight and also a hump at the back of my neck. I will never use that again. The new doc. I have now doesn't believe in prednisone which is good.

You take care as well

Trudy

Trudy,

I too was taking meclizine. It seemed to help for awhile but when the vertigo is out of control it doesn't work. I also have the hump, which I hate because I never had it before I started Prednisone. When I started with the vertigo in 2002 my doctor put me on 60 mgs. of prednisone on an off for about 5 years. Now she is decreasing it (finally) and I'm doing for this month every other day of 5 and 4 next month it will be just 4. I think that I'm in a flare but also having problems because I'm going down off prednisone. I also gained alot of weight and in October 2004 my doctor put me on a diet of chicken, fish and just greens. I wanted to show her that I could lose the weight and lost 55 pounds. I also am using when I'm well my fitness machine (gazelle power plus) 40 minutes a day. There is no impact on joints. Since I lost 55 pounds I got quite sick last August and again was put on 60 mgs. of prednisone and gained 20 pounds which I lost about 10 but cannot lose the extra l0, its soooo frustrating. Hopefully your vertigo will disappear.

Eva

Hi Eva I am having a really bad day today with the vertigo, I had to force myself out of bed because I kept falling back down. I have an doc. appt. tomorrow morning. I have to call my brother to take me because I cant drive like this and my mom has to pick up my kids from school because I cant drive. It is so frustrating. I believe the vertigo is here to stay I have had it now for a month. I get so scared that I am going to fall and really hurt myself one of these days. I cant wait till school is out so atleast my kids will be here.

I truly hope the doctor has something for your vertigo. I know how frustrating this can be. When I'm in severe vertigo I can't do anything either. Today I have vertigo and am having alot of pain in my joints and muscles and nerves.. a combo of sorts. I am praying for you.

Eva

Thanks Eva

I went to the doc. today and she ordered an MRI of my brain just to be safe. I go for that on Thurs.

I hope your day gets better for you and your pain eases up.
