I know the Drs. say it will trigger a flare-up, but might a little bit of sun be safe? I am so depressed this time of year and have been reading about vitamin d deficiency. I do take suppliments but I don't think they work as well as the real thing. I always feel better in the summer and used to tan for years before I was diagnosed. Now, I dont want to get dark, I just want to get a quick 5 minute boost maybe once a week.

I'm curious to know if anyone has done this despite drs. warnings and if it helped. (I also have fibro and

tanning has been recomended for that). Any advise would be much appreciated.

My doctor said that it all depends on the person...sometimes i tan and other times i dont and have noticed that i felt really good after tanning and that it helped prevent sunburn....she did tell me that i need to follow what my own body says and not to go so strictly by the book because not everyone reacts to things the same way....she did say to avoid it if i was already in a flareup....i feel the same exact way you do and i'm glad to hear someone else thinks like i do....i'm outside alot in the summertime so i will let you know how it goes for me too....i just had a bad flare up so i am still contimplating the tanning be...i'll let you know what happens

Thanks Dreamhorse,

I think I'm going to give it a quick 5 min. try. I'm also outside in the summer working, so it's probably healthier than waiting to get a sunburn my first day outside. I only hope my dr. is as open minded as yours.

thanks again, psk

My doctor said to stay out of the sun for at least a year right after i found out lupus, which was obviously ridiculous to me. I have been tanning every other day since it's getting to be spring and nice. I wear sunscreen and lay out for about an hour or two and I'm fine. I think it is different for every person, and it's easier for me bc i've been in the sun all my life and am Hawaiian and usually tan year round. Just make sure you if you feel bad after you lay out, wait a little bit to do it again.

Hi, Well be careful I knew a woman in my local LUPUS support group

she disregarded the advice to stay out of the sun and laid out in it.

A short time later she died........it caused a major flare and she had heart failure
