Hello all! I am going to my yearly eye appointment tomorrow and was wondering if anyone has ever had any eye problems from the plaquenil? My Rheummy told me that it can cause damage to the back of your eyes if you take it for too long. I was just wondering if it has happened to anyone because I'm a little paranoid about it.I have been on it for a year now and getting a little worried..Unsure

Hi Vallyndel I am not on plaquenil but I do see my eye doctor every year. I do have a problem with blurred vision and am wearing glasses to read but my eye doctor also checks to make sure that the lupus has affected my eyes. I will be praying that your appointment goes well. I'm sorry that I can't help with this question since I don't take that drug. Good luck!

Thank you Eva. I hope it goes well too. Thanks for responding to me even though you don't take that medicine. It always makes me feel better to know that you are praying for me. So thank you very much for taking time out to write to me!

Hi Vallyndel I take plaquenil but I haven't had any problems with it I talked to my eye doctor about it he suggested that I get my eyes checked every six months while I'm taking it. Like Mumeva I too have the blurr vision and I also have double vision I guess that just comes with having Lupus. I hope this helps you some. Lots of luck with your appt. Keep us posted.

I have taken plaquenil for far to long. While it can cause problems my ophthalmologist said that he rarely sees any problems involving taking it. Of course, we all are different. I guess in the long run, it is a risk I don't mind taking. So many other things could happen. Lupus can just be so much fun.

Hi Vallyndel,

I have been on Plaquenil (200 mg 2x a day) for almost a year now and have not experienced any vision problems, although I do wear glasses. I've been getting my eyes checked every three months in the last year, my next appt. is a year from March. So far so good

I hope your appt. goes wellWink

Have a good day

Thanks everyone for responding. My appt. went really well. My eye dr. said everything looks good, so that eases my mind a whole lot. I have to go back in a year for another check-up. I still have double vision, but he said if it continued to get worse just to go in and I'll have to get some contacts. I'm just glad I got some great news today that my eyes are fine. Thanks again everyone for writing me back.

I'm glad your appt. went well...My eye doctor said the same thing as redhairali's. He said it is rare for any problems to occur. I have been on 400 mg for 3 years now with no problems either.

Thank you for caring everyone. I get a little freaked out everytime I go to the dr. You would think after all this time I've been going you get used to it, but I haven't. Thanks for responding, it really makes me feel more comfortable going into my appointments. I love you all!
