Hi Everyone

I just posted a reply to another topic and mentioned that I can't eat. No matter what I do, no eating!!! I spit my food out of my mouth. I used to be a very healthy organic veggie kind of person and now I drink coke and eat ice cream if I can't get anything else down. Not very healthy. I decided to make a seperate post to see how other people are dealing with their appetites. One prednisone, I couldn't stop eating and was complaining about that. Now............!!! UGH! It never ends.....

Anyone else in this proverbial boat?

TOTALLY!!! I just posted something as well. I LIVE on coca-cola because its sometimes the only calories I'll get. I will eat, but, I'd rather not because then it hurts my stomach. I really start looking skeletal after awhile! Like now. Its NASTY!!! Don't know what to do about this either, myself...

Hi

I have done a bunch of reading and research into the subject of Lupus and appetite and I found out that a certain percentage of lupus patients have an anorexic aspect to their disease. I am still fighting to eat and to be honest with you, my dr. told me to smoke pot. It has helped dramatically. I WILL NOT eat a SINGLE thing until I smoke; then it takes about 1 1/2 hrs and I will eat normally. The only bad thing about it is that I won't smoke during the day because it makes me too tired. I had asked my dr. for medication to stimilate my appetite and she felt that pot was the least harmful way to deal with my appetite. I have gained 2 lbs. after losing 26 lbs in a couple of months. Please let me know if this helps.

Wow...never expected that one! I have never tried any drugs to be honest...I did get high off of contact once but thats a long story lol...I can definitely see that working but that is something that is too scary for me to try thats for sure...I have to worry with my job and losing my Security Clearance, and also I would be afraid of becoming addicted to the drug and what it was doing to my brain cells...

I personally have been drinking Ensure (only the chocolate one because I think the other ones taste like crap) every day. I take the Ensure Plus which is for maintaining and gaining healthy weight...I haven't gained any weight but I haven't lost anymore either so I guess thats a plus.

I smoked pot for years. As for passing drug tests for jobs...yea...that's not easy. Thankfully, they never test musicians. hehe, They'd probably have no one playing if they did that. I stopped doing it when I moved, but, it really does help with appetite. as for the addiction factor, never had trouble quitting. And as for my brain cells, they still work really well. But all I do is music and memorizing music and stuff, so, maybe its such a specified thing its not really comparable? I don't know. Smile

I think the "scare" tactics they use with marijuana are overblown on purpose. Anything, from food to alcohol, can cause an addiction. But, I believe in moderation, its actually a really good tool for those needing to eat. I honestly think, if they could, they should research its use as a safe appetite "increaser" and its use in pain management. But, alas, its been branded an evil drug. Its really not fair that a natural substance that has been around forever, is completely ignored while they develop and approve drugs that end up killing people and causing more problems than they help.

Stepping off the soap box now...

haha

Such a dork! Tongue I love being dorky...

Yeah its true...For me the fear of God has been driven into me by my parents about any drugs and the consequences and now even though they don't test you where I work, they said if you ever get caught(as in arrested) for it you automatically lose your security clearance which means your fired....thats enough to keep the fear of God in me AHHH.

hehe...well...someday...someone will open their mind to honestly testing the active ingredients and pot and finding away to put them in a pill. Smile

Actually they do have it in a pill, it's called (of all things!) Marinol. I asked my doctor about it and she said she would rather I just smoked a little bit. There are 16 states that have legalized medical marijuana and NY has just put a bill in to the senate as well. I think it's just a short time away and I have to say that I would not be eating ANYTHING if it wasn't for a little pot!
