Just got back from the nephrologist, boy, do the doctors love adding something else to the mix. Although my kidney function is good, well at least acceptable, my parathyroid numbers are up. And that is associated with kidney damage. Just one more drug to add to the mix and that drug needs lots of lab work done to make sure it isn't attacking my bones.

Ali.....What does the high parathyroid level mean? At least you will be monitored while on this new medication. I am glad to hear that your feeling good and no pain.

From what I got from the doctor, the parathyroid regulates the calcium in our bodies, since it is high, they need to reduce the how active it is. So I will take something that should reduce it, but not too much. Otherwise it could be very bad for my bones. I have to go in every two weeks for labs to check activity level. I think that is right. I have to see him again in 2 months to see how it is going.

He also asked me how I was doing with all the sun we have been getting, I gave him my standard answer of, the sun doesn't really bother me, heat does. Well, when I got home from running all my errands, I had a rash all over both of my arms. It figures.

Ali.....I had a dexa scan done and it showed I had osteopenia so I am taking Actonel......I should probably have another one done to see if it has improved the bone loss. t showed that my left femur has the loss, thought that was weird.

I guess you should probably start wearing sunblock, I do every day even if I am just staying home.

He did mention that I should probably never go on any of that sort of osteoporosis drug. He did say through, that this was in no way related to having lupus. Yippie!!

Ali....How come he doesn't want you on any drugs for osteoporosis? I am glad to hear that this doesn't have anything to do with Lupus.....Hurray!
