Hi, I myself do not have Lupus, but my mom does. She does not tell me much about it, I think to protect me...but I've getting very worried. She currently has a sinus infection, or what I think might be worse. Its making her very nauseus, so nauseaus she cannot speak and recently started vommiting bile(gross, sorry). I know that because of Lupus she has frighteningly low white bloodcell counts and thats really bad for immunities. What should I be worred about/ can I do to help her?

Thank you very much, all advice or feedback is really appreciated.

Welcome to the support group.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I can tell that you really love her.

My mom had Systemic Lupus and passed away at the young age of 57. She's been gone almost 11 years. When she was first diagnosed, there was only one doctor in the state that knew anything about Lupus. And wow, the doctors had learned so much even before she passed. There's so much they can do for Lupus patients now-a-days, and so many clinical trials out there that patients can be a part of.

Do you live close to your mom? How often does she go to the doctor? I guess my only advice at the moment would be- if you can go to a doctor's visit with her and talk with the doctor yourself. It's really helpful to ask your own questions about your mom and how you can help benefit her, and her situation.

I'm here for ya. Feel free to send me a PM anytime. If I knew more about your mom...and if she's alot like my mom was, I might be able to give you more suggestions.

Another question I have is- Have you been tested for Lupus and do you have any symptoms?

Like I said, feel free to send me a PM anytime and I'll help you as much as I can.

Take care of yourself.

Amy

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about your mom and all of the frustrations that come with having a parent with such a terrible and dabilitating illness. My mom was diagnosed over 30 years ago, so I have grown up with it all my life. I know that it seems like there is nothing you can do at times to alleviate her symptoms, but know that Lupus is just as much a mental/emotional disease, as it is physical. If not for my mom's positive attitude and strong faith, I know for a fact that she would not be with us, today. You have to stay strong for her, and try and stay as positive as you can--even though it might seem impossible at times. Educate yourself on as much as you can, and accompany her to doctors appointments as often as you can. My mom used to run the Lupus Support Group here in San Francisco for several years, and I grew up attending the meetings on a regular basis. It was really difficult to see the detriment of this disease, but all of the sufferers that I met truly touched my life, and were really honest with me about what is most helpful when the disease is flared and acting up--and the number one piece of adivce was LOVE. Even if it means just sitting still with her and giving her your warm/positive energy, I know that it will help her greatly. Just know that support is key, so if she is having a bad day-- the little things like cleaning the house or preparing meals makes all the difference in the world.

I truly wish you both all the best...Stay strong.
