In the past 6 mos or so I've had bruising on my legs primarily. My platelet count is very low, so the rhumetologist stopped my Plaquenil in November. It's gone up a bit. The hemotologist said the bruising may be caused by the med but probably is just part of the Lupus and I need to talk to the rhumetologist. I don't have much faith in rhumetologist, bc they have not given me much to go on. My GP was the one who made such a fuss ove a 30K platelet count.

Has anyone had this problem? And I'm looking for a NEW Rhumetologist in the area of WPB, FL.

Any help would be sooooo appreciated!

Dear Positive about Life,

I too am new to this site, and only have been diagnosed with Lupus for just about a year. It's very scary, and the doctors don't seem to give a shit about how you feel or what is going on. My GP also diagnosed my Lupus!!! Thank God for doctors that care!!! Any way, I have bruising all the time all over my body. It looks as if I am an abused wife!!! I have no clue what I did to cause such bruises! I have been taking pics of them so the next time I go to my rhumatologist he can actually see I am not exagerating. They never are there during my appointment time? I am still taking Plaquinill, it does help with my hives and rashes. I don't have any faith in my rhumatologist either!!! He is all about stats and not about the patient. Anyway, I'm not too much help on your question, just thought you might like to know someone else has the same issues.

Hey 65mustang,

That's awful!!!! My bruises seem to linger on for a long time, and aren't always painful, but definitely annoying! Has your doc checked your platelet count? The hemotologist told me that brusing related to low platelets would look like tiny red dots all over, almost like a rash. He thinks it's more related to the disease. But I find it funny that my platelets are low and my brusing started. I don't think it's the Plaquenil at all, bc I've taken it for so long with no problems. Have you always had bruising since your diagnosis? Or is it since you started the meds? My body is starting to feel the effects of not taking the meds now, and I'm not a lazy or whiny person....but I feel like I'm 15 years older. Have you searched the web on the brusing with Lupus? I did and found that YES there are a few ways to have it. 1/ is the disease itself 2/ is the medication And there isn't any way to get the platelets back up without a transfusion of platelets or just wait and see. That's where I'm at, waiting......What state are you in?

I don't think they have ever checked my platelets. I didn't bruise innitially just started getting real bad about 4 or 5 months ago. Lately I've been getting a lot of sores in my scalp and just recently on my arms. They itch real bad. I go to the rhumatologist on the first of Feb. Maybe he'll have some new ideas.
