Depression in Lupus patients,is usually a given, not only because you are dealing with a Chronic Illness, but also and very important with Lupus, has to do with the Sun or lack thereof, The Sun causes a production/release of a chemical in our brains called serotonin, which is the chemical that makes us happy, so to speak, And most people with Lupus cannot tolerate the Sun, as it causes us to Flare! And in avoiding the sun, we also are not able to produce/release this chemical, and are put on reuptake inhibitors, meaning they manually make the brain produce/release this chemical. Prozac, Wellbutrin, and Zoloft are these kinds of meds, and I've seen a lot of folks trying Cymbalta.
