unexplained bruises has me worried

over the weekend I discovered a huge welt on my thigh so of course I checked it out and theres this huge nasty bruise on my thigh. I got a little freaked out but then realized I bump into this one corner of my bed a lot so I figured it was that. not long after discovering this bruise I find a couple smaller ones on both legs, and now have quite the bruise on top of my knee. I started getting a little freaked out because I never have this many bruises on my legs and can't remember doing anything that would have caused them. I also discovered these dots. just little dots as if someone took a maroon red pen and poked me with it. just everywhere on my body. some are where I had been scratching and some are just scattered and not in a little group. then this morning I woke up to use the restroom at about 4am and I have this huge bruise on my forearm. I hadn't been doing anything except sleeping. I have had nothing but anxiety worrying about this since I first discovered the random bruises and dots everywhere. on top of that, I don't know if its too much information but its that time of month and my body decided to have a heavier period more than normal, to the point where I was very concerned so that added to my "oh my gosh I'm dying what is wrong with me" panic. I have a doctors appointment at 4 but until then if anyone could put me at ease a little that would be very nice. I've attached a picture to show what it looks like so hopefully it shows up okay. http://i51.tinypic.com/16c1ki0.jpg[/img]

It is EXACTLY what I had on my hands last winter that would come and go and be extremely itchy. I only have one small area on my chin that will periodically look like a bruise the size of a dime and then it goes away (not itchy and does not hurt)... It's more Purple than blue. Sorry you have this. **Please let me know what your Dr. says after the appointment!** Good luck Smile

I explained to my doctor what was going on and showed her the bruise on my arm and the red dots but she wasn't interested in seeing any of it anywhere else on my body. I've got a little fever though. she just had my blood drawn and will call me in a few days to let me know the results. didn't really make me worry any less but from googling "lupus and bruising" it seems to be common.

The little red dots that you have are called petechiae.

Indeed, I also read that Lupus causes more fragile vessels, hence, bruising. It is my case anyway.

Please let us know as soon as you find out...

Hugs,

Maryse

I ended up going to the ER. wasnt going take any chances and glad I went. I'm updating you all from my hospital bed. they've given me an IV of medicine to help (starts with a w...winrew? winrow?) my platelets go up and the infamous steroids. hemotolgist specialist will see me tomorrow. hoping for a speedy recovery, I dont want to be stuck here for a week again and want to be healthy as I can be. its boring and I cant use the bathroom alone in case I fall.

Oh my, I am sorry you ended up in the hospital but am so glad that you are getting the help that you need! When I was in the hospital I decided I could use the restroom on my own one night and was like a human pinball machine in there. I am so amazed that I didn't fall and hurt myself but didn't want to bother the Nurses... Be careful and God Bless. My prayers are for a speedy recovery. ((HUGS))
