My skin also reacts to cheap jewelry. I don't have problems with sterling but most of the other metals in costume jewelry cause problems. What is nighthades? I haven't heard of it before.

This is from about.com: Nightshade vegetables are among the foods that some people feel can trigger arthritis flares. Others feel their arthritis symptoms improve when nightshade vegetables are avoided. What are nightshade vegetables? According to The George Mateljan Foundation, food members of the nightshade family include:

* potatoes (not sweet potatoes)

* tomatoes

* eggplant

* sweet and hot peppers (including paprika, cayenne pepper and Tabasco sauce)

* ground cherries

* tomatillos and tamarillos

* garden huckleberry and naranjillas

* pepinos and pimentos

Should people with arthritis avoid nightshade vegetables? According to the University of Washington website, "No foods have been definitively shown to cause or exacerbate arthritis in most individuals. A variety of diets and hand-me-down information exists about certain foods and arthritis, in particular the night shade plants, but none of it has been proven." The effect of foods on arthritis symptoms vary greatly from person to person. It is an individual decision whether or not to avoid nightshade vegetables.

Of course, you can find others articles stating differently. It is something to keep in mind.

I pay dearly when I eat the above mentioned items. There is also an enzime in land animal that is believed to cause inflamation in some people and I have, sadly, noticed a change by cutting out the land animal (I used to enjoy steak!).

It is all what you are willing to sacrafice!

My doctors won't set me up with a dietician,so I've looked into it myself over the years. Ive been told to avoid: Dairy products,night-shade veggies,Red Meats,Citrus Fruits,Sugar, Poultry,White Breads and Pastas(anything white,essentially),Processed Foods,Tropical Fruit,and I'm sure,some that I've forgotten. I call it the "ROCKS,DIRT,and TWIGS DIET" There's not much left to eat! LOL! Bryan

Bryan - haha - it is better than twigs and dirt! But I was bummed out to give up pasta (my favorite!) and cheese, sugar, bread, tomatoes, potatoes, milk (and all dairy), etc etc.. in December when I got sick. But I feel SOOO much better it is worth it!! I get recipes from various books - such as Rebecca Black's "The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book". Tonight I made oven roasted chicken with a bunch of veggies, & brown rice - YUM! and a huge salad with nuts - with olive oil and vinegar. Melon for dessert - not so bad!!!!! It is a high protein and high fiber diet. I am also taking a lot of supplements that help.

I don't react to jewelry but to any artificial fragrance - ugh! I get sick. I guess we just need to figure out our triggers..

This is a great thread. I must live under a rock because I have never heard these veggies refered to as nightshade. So this is really nice to know. I guess if you stay clear of all of this there will be not much left but rocks, twigs, dirt. Funny Bryan!
