Hello,

I have just started to get a rash behind my ears and am curious if this is another Lupus manifestation. I haven't really had a "Lupus rash" before so I'm not sure if this is a common place to get it? I'm also curious to know what a Lupus rash feels like? This one is itchy and it seems to heat up. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jessykay

Hopefully someone here will have an answer for you. I have Systemic Lupus and don't have the rash part.

My mom had the rash, but I remember it was only on her face. It would swell, sometimes itch, and was definitely heated.

You probably should call the doctor's office and tell them about it. Cause if it's not Lupus related (well, even if it is), it's not gonna be fun to go the weekend with it. They can probably give you something to help, at least the itching and heat part of it.

I have systemic lupus and the rash that I get is the butterfly on my face and I do get the discoid rash on my wrist area and sometimes on my chest. This rash doesn't itch and it eventually goes away. I do use sunscreen everyday and I put it on my face-ears-chest and hands. This does help me quite abit but sometimes if I'm in a car for a long period of time I still get the rash even though I have sunscreen on. Amy is right, I would call the doctor and try to get in before the weekend.

I had to go to the Rheummy last week for a rash too. It was on my arms and chest and it didn't really itch but... The skin is the window to your body. If it shows up on your skin something in your body isn't happy. My rash was on my ears and nose. Not the butterfly rash. He called it a bulls eye rash. I was placed on a steriod dose pack and it isn't really getting better. He thinks it might be a viral thing. So I concure with everyone else. So much as it sucks, call your MD and have them look it over.

I have Lupus SLE and when I had my first flare up I had a rash in both of my ears. I've never had one outside of my ear just inside. They did itch a little bit and took over my entire ear so it wasn't a pretty sight. My Rheummy increased my Prendisone and eventually they got better. Now, when I notice that I'm getting a rash in my ear I immediately know that something is going on inside my body and phone my Rheummy so that the necessary adjustments are made to my medications to try to get rid of it as quickly as possible.I've also had a rash on my neck before but was told that was a reaction to Cholorquine so my Rheummy had me stop taking it and it went away within two weeks.

Hshoe29, I've never had a steroid dose pack and was wondering if you could let me know what that entales?

A steriod dose pack it usually a 5 day routine of steriods that tapers. The first day you take 6 pills spaced out... 2 at breakfast, 1 at lunch, 1 at dinner and 2 at bedtime. Then the next day 5 pills, then 4 then 3 then 2 then 1. It is a boost of steriods in a couple of day rather than upping or restarting a whole course of prednisone. I have been trying to get off prednisone and am having a very hard time coming off.
