MDJunction to me

carmen33"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

So i don't have enough work hours anymore. Didn't have trouble back when I could work. How do you apply? Was it a hassle? If not enough work hours where do I start? If you applied did you get a lawyer?

Lucy......good advice that Amy gave you. I applied for SSI in 2006 and was finally awarded disability in 2009....it took me awhile because the disability doctor didn't believe I was sick...and he had never seen me so he was just going back a few medical reports he received.....I got awarded benefits when I went to a hearing....the judge took one look at me and told my lawyer(brother-in-law) that he was awarding me benefits that I should have been getting this when I first applied. I pray that you will get the advice you need from this link.

It also took me about 3 years to be approved. I hope things work out for you.

Hearing your stories of how long it took and I'm only 7 months in! I am at the 3rd appeal level though. Thanks for sharing how long it was for you guys.

I applied in 05 and was awarded in 06, I did get a lawyer and he was paid when I got paid, so that worked out well. I did go thru 3 appeals, but my lawyer handled it all. It was just too much for me to handle. I had a huge notebook with letters and the appeals. Like Eva when I went for the 1st hearing I was awarded my Social Security disability right then. They had to back pay me, from the time I first signed up for it. Good Luck and God's Blessings, Thelma

Thelma....they back payed me from the first time I applied in 06. Since my brother-in-law was my lawyer he waived the fee....so my husband is going to pour him a new driveway. He was so great with me.....it so happened that I ended up in the hospital when the papers had to be turned in so he hand carried them in to the office himself. I think in every state it's different in how they handle dissability.
