Since yesterday afternoon, I have had HORRIBLE swelling in my feet and ankles! It is so bad that when I push my thumb into my foot, the indent stays for about 10 minutes. My legs have also been very sore Sad It hurts to walk and get around.

I am just curious if this is pretty normal to lupus or if this is something I should seek medical attention about? I dont want to bother my doctor if this is the 'norm'.

Thanks

~Wendy

Infection that causes swelling? Or fluid retention due to poor circulation? Or part of lupus flaring? I think you would need to see your family doctor in the end, so that you could receive treatment.

Thanks. I didnt want to over-react. I am just a little scared. I have had swelling before, but never this bad. My legs and ankles hurt so bad that I can barely walk. Its just that with this disease I never know what is normal and what is not. Lol

Wendy, let us know what they say. Loopie is right especially if this is new to you. It is important to see what is causing it. There are lots of possibilities. For pitting edema to be present there has to be quite a bit of fluid being retained. So please call to have it checked out.

I agree with everyone else. Sounds like you need to call your doctor.

Wendy....I get swelling in my ankles and feet and my Rheumatologist and foot surgeon says that it is poor circulation do to the neuropathy from the Lupus. If this continues I would call the doctor.

Wendy, I have occasional issues with swelling, but what you are describing is something my mother battles constantly with. Her doctor recently put her on a strict 1,200 calorie diet, and it's been doing a lot of good for her. Her swelling is down, but she still has really bad days where she can't walk because of it. I would definitely see a doctor about it, because my aunt also had problems with swelling before she had her pulminary embolism. I hope I don't scare you further, I just want to make sure you get treated! Love you, hon, you are in my prayers!

Thanks everyone. Smile I called my doctor earlier today and left a message, but haven't got a return call yet (it sometimes takes her awhile). The swelling is down considerably today, but still there. I tried to stay off my feet as much as I could.

Love you all

~Wendy

That's good that the swelling has gone down. Good thing it isn't an emergency or something or your doctor would be a little late to that party. LOL. I would still check in even though its better to find out exactly why it is happening. Let us know.
