Hi Christine, my experience has been with plaquenil, methotrexate, cytoxan, thyroid meds. and prednisone....usually anywhere from 40 to 60 mg at a time but I've also been hospitalized 4 times where they gave me 125mg of solumedrol (steroids) when I was there. I've gained 70lbs in the last 10 months and my skin has become so thickened that it is even hard to get an IV in my veins. Please keep an eye on the dosage of prednisone your doc feels you need.....now I have other serious problems that have been caused by the long time use of the prednisone. Hopefully you won't have to use it for very long. I'll keep you in my prayers!

Hello Christine, I've been on prednisone for about 14 years and going anywhere from 20 mgs up to 60. My doctor now wants me completely off prednisone and now I'm down to 3 mgs. Next month I alternate days from 2mg to 3 mgs. I did have a bone density test done to see if the prednisone broke my bones down since I've been on it for such a long time. My bones were fine. Since I've gone down off prednisone I've been having problems with my joints swelling and alot of pain all over my body especially the legs. I'm also on cellcept and imuran. I think the meds aren't working like they used to because I've been on them for so long. I'm going to have to talk to my rheumy and make some medication changes. I did gain quite a bit of weight when I would go up to 60 mgs for awhile. I have lost about 50 pounds but am also trying to execise and eat right. Its hard to exercise when your hurting so bad but I try to every other day for 30 min. Maybe you won't gain the weight and if you have concerns talk to your rheumy about them. Please take Care,

Eva
