You can have a false 'negative' ANA. Doesn't happen very often though. I've not heard of Malar Lupus. I've heard of Malar Rashes and then there's Discoid Lupus, which would be along the same line. Did they do a skin biopsy of the rash? Lots of doctors will do that to verify whether it's really Lupus. And it can help them determine if it's something else. I guess, if they didn't. I'd probably want them to. I wouldn't want to be on all the harsh meds that come with Lupus. If, it was a different type of rash. Keep us informed on how you're doing.
