I'm so frustrated! I try so hard to keep working and then I start feeling sick again. My boss knows I have Lupus and that I'm currently not feeling well. I've already called in sick once this week. She has called me twice today and left messages asking me to come in on my day off. Just because I live 5 mins away from work does not automatically make me available!

Lupus is not like a cold. It won't go away in a couple of days. I may feel like this for a long time. When will people understand!! I just had to get that off my chest. grrrrr!

People don't understand this illness because sometimees on the outside we don't look sick. Shame on your boss for taking advantage of you especially when your sick. Its very difficult to work while your sick, I know because I'm there myself. Its okay to vent thats why were here. This is a great site to talk about this disease with people who have the same problems. I don't discuss this illness to others besides my family and friends because they will never understand it no matter how much you try to explain the disease. I actually had a best friend (supposidely) when I became ill and she would tease me about having a leg or arm that had a little bit of sun on it while I was sitting in the shade and she never understood the illness. I think it scarred her. So for about 5 years we really didn't see each other much. Now we talk every now and than and I never discuss my illness with her. I think she finelly gets it. I truly think people are uncomfortable talking about this with someone who has it, unless they are willing to read about lupus or even go on the internet they won't get it. I'm glad you got that off your chest and its good to vent sometimes. I hope your day gets better.

You are okay to vent. Like mumeva said- that's what we're here for.

I do wish your boss would understand. It is totally unfair of him/her to want you to come in on your day off. Those types of authority make me mad! Even if you didn't have Lupus! You shouldn't be expected to go in there. It's 'your' day off.

It seems that some people are anxious to read up about others diseases or conditions. Some just don't care though. Seems they are too caught up in themselves and/or their own world.

We're here for ya!

Amy

I used to get the same thing from my boss. My doc put me on intermittent FMLA because I was/am sick alot (flares) and that has helped a bit. But it took that to get everyone to finally believe that I really have Lupus. Most of the time I look and act fine, so...? I still get the cold shoulder once and a while. But if you don't take the time you need off-you'll just get sicker-believe me. I still feel guily, stressed and depressed when I have bad flares and miss work/etc...

Try not to feel guilty. You need to take care of "you". And those flares are nasty!

Hang in there. Keep that chin up when you're at work.

I understand a 100% i am currently going through the same thing at work. people talk crap behind your back, they even go as far to say that i am just faking it so i don't have to work. grrrr, that just angers me so bad. it makes me want to hand out pappers about lupus just so they will shut up and leave me alone. I miss allot of work and am on FMLA i miss 2 days out of a week, and sometimes i can go a full week or so without a flare up. just the thought of getting out of bed and facing these people are depressing enough to make me not want to work.

I honestly think this is one of the biggest stresses in life with Lupus... you really have to try to ignore everyone-nobody understands unless they have Lupus. It's a viscous cycle. You have towork, but the work causes stress, then you are more apt to get a flare, then your stressed becuase you missed work becuase of the flare, then you have more flares, and on and on... but we are #1-not work!!!!!

Well I have submitted and only work 3 days a week now. I couldn't cope otherwise. I never have been able to. I'm lucky in a way that I don't have children, because I don't think I would be able to work at all. Time is ticking away, I will be 32 soon and I'm starting to think that children aren't going to be an option for me

I was glad when I was finally diagnosed a year ago, then I had a reason to be feeling so terrible. But I suffered a good 8 years with out knowing what was wrong with me.

I COMPLETELY understand!! I am 34-diagnosed about 2+yrs ago. I thought the same thing, but I am still hoping for kids some day-but then it scares me too, because I can't even take care of myself, work, house and new husband... just keep the hope going!! And I feel lucky I don't have worse systemic problems like alot of other Lupus patients.
