I keep forgetting about this symptom ( or at least I presume it is a symptom!!)

until it happens again! Every now and then my breasts become sore and painful

and swollen. This can last for 4 or 5 weeks so it is not pre-menstrual. It actually

feels more like early pregnancy ( which it is not either....I am widowed)

Has anyone else experienced this and how have they treated it?????

Thank you so much,

Honor

Hi, you know I get the same thing where my breasts are tender and hurt for at least a couple of weeks. I just chalk it up to my lupus flaring. Right now I'm in a huge flare with everything hurting and I believe thats why my breasts hurt. I really don't have a good explanation of this I hope you find some answers to this maybe someone else from this site could give us their opinion.

Thank you for your reply "mumeva"....I am relieved that someone else has this symptom...(tho wish you didn't!!). On the rare occasions when I have mentioned this symptom to a doctor, I generally get a blank look......or the pre-menstrual

suggestion, so I have given up on it!

Sorry you are having a bad time. I hope it passes soon and take good care of yourself in the meantime.

Honor- I thank you for your prayers we all need that. I see that your the same age as me and was diagnosed around the time I was. I was just told this past Tuesday that I now have lupus vasculitis. It seems as the years go by the lupus has progressed. I thought when I started menopause that the symptoms would get better but so far its gotten worse. I take alot of meds and I just pray that one day I will be in remission as I've not experience a remission since I've been diagnosed. I wish you well today.

Hey I was so shocked to see this post because I know all about it! I had a hysterectomy a year ago this past February. After the surgery with in a month or so is when I came down so ill(Lupus)but ever since then, every month before my monthly.( I mean I don't get a period but I still have my ovaries) I get the worst sore and even sometimes swollen and hot breast. This will last 1 to 2 weeks. Its bad! I never had this even with my pregnancies or with my periods before so it must have something to do with Lupus and my waked out Hormones. I also told the DR he acts likeI dont know what the heck!

I feel your pain ice packs work and advil when its so bad. After it goes away I feel like my boobs deflate like a balloon and they droop. That's the only good thing, when it happens they are firm and balloonish. LOL oh well, I would take the droop over firm because of the pain.

Take care!

In reading your post it sounded just like me. In l993 I was 35 and I had a partial hysterectomy and 4 months later I came down with flu like symptoms and my family doctor said that he thought I might have rheumatoid arthritis. He sent me to a rheumatologist that was treating me for this disease for two years. I wasn't happy with this rheumatologist and it so happened that I made an appointment with a new rheumatologist and had the malar rash on my face and had the discoid rash on my arms and chest. I didn't know what the rash was until I walked into her office she asked if I was tested for lupus. Of course I didn't know what that was and told her no. I'm wondering if the hysterecomty played a role in me getting lupus because it is dealing with the hormones. I can't take asperin of any kind because I had a couple of brain hemorrhages the end of last year and the beginning of this year. The only thing I can take is tylenol and that never seems to help. When I have severe pain the doctor perscribed tylenol with codine which does help a little. Oh well what do ya do. Take Care,

Eva

Yeah I swear the Hystorectomy is what set my Lupus off too. Yes I felt like I had the flu and tired and weak and the joint pain went from bad to worse. They diagnosed me with Stills Disease at first then changed it after seeing a specialist. Wow life is something isnt it. I wonder how many women got Lupus after their hysterectomy.

Thanks

Thats an interesting question. I wouldn't be surprised at all if there were quite a few that did. I understand that the pain went from bad to worse. Well we were both diagnosed with something other than lupus at first. What is Stills Disease? Life is something. You never know from day to day what its going to bring us.

Hello guys,

To think that my poor sore breasts set us all to thinking! In my case, my pregnancy with my son seems to have set the lupus off. I was 32 and a week after

his birth, I was hobbling on my feet and utterly exhausted. Weeks later the pain

spread to my shoulders and I too was originally diagnosed as having RA, before

seeing specialist in London (he runs a lupus clinic and research unit, only one in

Europe...I came accross the website the other day and it is very hopeful!..www.londonlupuscentre.co.uk). It seems that in each of our cases, whether by hysterectomy or pregnancy, our hormones have run amok!!! I know what you mean "wildflower girl" about breasts deflating!!!! When I see the tiny little bags that repalce the sore ones, I'm not sure which I prefer either!

We can only hope that as our hormones settle down, we will begin to feel a lot

better!

I keep reading all your post and it made me also wonder if Lupus is linked to having a Hysterectomy. I had a partial hyster. about 5 yrs ago and then they went back in about 3 yrs ago to remove my other ovary. I was dianosed with Lupus about 4 yrs ago.

My breasts would also get really sore and still do to where I cant hardly stand to wear a bra. I just figured it was because I was cursed with large breasts. I had to get a reduction because they were heading for a size E. But even with that I still have to pain and swelling. I cant take any hormone supplements do to they affect your kidney's on top of the Lupus and meds you take for the Lupus.

I just hope it gets better for all of us.
