I'm just wondering how many of you have relatives that have Systemic and/or Discoid Lupus.

I've seen so many controversial (sp?) articles and comments from doctors. Some state that it skips a generation. Others say it doesn't.

Regardless of what you've heard and/or read. What do you think? Do you think it skips a generation? And do you have relatives with this horrible disease?

The only other person in my family that has Lupus is my younger sister. I heard someone say one time that it's common for siblings to have it, though I'm not sure how true that is.

I can't find anyone in my family history who was ever diagnosed with it. Not quite sure where it came from.

My mother has a very mild SLE. However, I have a BIG bad SLE. She does not have a sun/UV light reaction. Where I exploid in the sun with 70 SPF and a hat. My mother side that lupus runs on her mothers' side of the family. I don't know how it's not linked but who knows....

I have sle and as far as I know there is no one in the family who has any type of lupus unless it goes way back into the family history. My daughter may have lupus but they want to test her after she has her baby which is due any day now so hopefully she doesn't have this.

My aunt was finally diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago now. I do think its hereditary. Really I do. My sister (once she goes to the doctor) I believe has it. All the same symptoms and signs. ( no medical insurance thats why its taking her so long to get tested)

Thanks everyone for youf input. I hope that more will respond to this post too.

I find the mystery of some of these auto-immune disorders/diseases quite interesting. So many unknowns.

I personally, don't feel that it matters if it's a sibling, a parent, or some other relative. I think it's hereditary in some way.

What made me ask this question- I have one doctor that says I DO have Lupus. Then, I have one that says, since my mom has/had it- I don't. They are both rheumy's in the same office. Again... interesting.

I hope you're all having some of your better days. Take care of yourselves!

I do think there is a genetic link. My 17 y/o has panniculitis and a high ANA and is on plaquenel. My sister (my daughter's aunt)has discoid lupus and my sister-in-law has SLE (my husband's sister). So my daughter has an aunt on both sides of the family with it. Also, My daughters' greatgrandmother had MS.
