Hi everyone. Hope y'all are feeling okay and having a good day. I am new here. my husband was recently told he has hepatocellular carcinoma. He was in the hospital for liver failure three times this year for unknown reasons. At one of the hospitalizations, he was told he has cirrhosis. He was told to go see a blood doctor after he got out. We went to see the doctor and he told dave he has cirrhosis and ordered a CT scan. All we knew about was cirrhosis. After the CT scan, I had to reschedule an appt with the doctor and when we got there he was mad and said we broke our apt. I told him we did not I had to reschedule. He very rudely said, well you know you have primary liver cancer, don't you? We were astounded. he said there was nothing he could do and to go see a surgeon. Dave's "lesion" is less than 5 cm and is unchanged now since March. No biopsy was done. How could the doctor know this is cancer and not just a benign tumor? We saw a surgeon who said he could do a liver resection, but we do not want to do that because Dave is very weak, anemic with very low platelets which would put him at risk for bleeding out if he bled at all during or after surgery, diabetes. We just don't feel he is healthy enough. he has had problems with encephalopathy but now he is taking lactulose which is helping a great deal. We live in a rural area with very few doctors. Do you think we should get a second opinion? I just can't believe a doctor can diagnose something as cancer without further investigation. Thanks for listening.
