Hello. I have recently been diagnosed with oral lichen planus. I am on prednisone to try and put it into "remission" per my doctor, but what I read online when I'm wide awake from the steriods, is not very encouraging. Looking to hear from others with oral lichen planus and have not had much luck. Just looking for others dealing with similar issues: burning tongue, metallic taste, tightness of checks, swelling of tongue, numbness of lips/tongue. Also...what toothpastes are working well for others? I have been using a baking soda but just realized it also has ben. peroxide which does not help my situation.

I have lichen planus on my skin and a mild case in my mouth but I used hydrogen peroxide and pretty much cleared it up. I still have to be careful about eating spicy things but its not as bad as it was. Now my arms and legs is another story. Prednisone is so bad for you. I was on it for my RA and it gave me cataracts. It can also cause bone loss.

thank you for your response. I am responding to the prednisone and mouth is so much better but I am concerned about side affects so I appreciate your feedback. I have an appointment with my doctor to discuss my concerns next week. So you said Hydrogen perioxide cleared up your mouth??? I had been told to avoid it!

Who told you to avoid it? It is the only thing that helped mine. I wouldn't use it everyday and you might dilute it with water but it definitely helped mine. That prednisone is bad stuff. Stop it when you can.

My oral surgeon told me to avoid it. My case is so severe and my mouth was sooooo tight that it would literally split if I opened too wide to yawn or laugh. I assumed it would dry it more??? I'll ask him about it now. I have lots of praying, thinking and research to do about the prednisone!

I have heard it will dry out your skin but I think if you mixed it with water, it would be better than nothing. Warm sea salt water should help also.
