Hi, My name is Alli, I'm a 41 y/o female. I am married and have three wonderfull girls.

I have been diagnosed with oral lichen planus recently. I feel overwhelmed and scared by all the information on the web.

I live in Israel and I have not found any forums on this topic locally.

I would love to hear of any advise on how to start understanding what I need to do control my symptoms.

Currently I have painfull ulcers on the inside of my cheeks and on my gums. It hurts to eat and brush my teath. I have an appointment to see a specialist in a week from now, but in the meantime, I would love any advise/help.

Thanks, Alli

Hello Alli,

I have Oral LP & skin. I have been put on an Anti-rejection medication -- very state of the art, radical treatment. It seems to be working.

Let us know how you make out at Doctor. Good luck!

Alli,

I have found that avoiding soda, mint, cinnamon, tomato and tomato sauces and spicy food helps. Go very bland with your diet. Try to find a toothpaste that does not have flavoring in it...I use one with just baking soda and hydrogen peroxide...even better if you can find one without the hydro. peroxide...I've just haven't found one yet.

I take prednisone. It has helped a lot but I do still have symptoms, just not as painful. I just noticed the date...have you been to the doctor, what was the outcome?

Thanks for your replys.

I have been away to Turkey and found my computer was not working when I returned.

It has been at the comp. lab for a few days and I am back to being conected.

I have been to the doctor who calmed me down considerably. She does think I have O.L.P but wants to do a biopsy to make sure.

I scedualed one for mid Nov. (the nearset time they had)

She advised against spicy food, and did not think I need any medication at this point.

Actually the sores in my mouth seem to be much better at this point. It seems to be going on cycles, where it is better for a few days and then new sores appear. I also feel much more at ease with the whole thing.

I was pretty stressed out when I initailly got the diagnosis.

The doctor also said that most people who she sees at her clinic in Jerusalem have O.L.P. which is restricted to the mouth. I hope that will be the case.

But she emphasised that the sores on the skin are usually easeally treatable.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

It helps to hear how other people cope.

take care,

Alli

Glad that you are feeling better about the situation and that your mouth seems to be getting better as well. I have had OLP since April and have not had any LP on the skin. I hope that will continue to be your case too.

Hello everyone.. I wanted to pass along something I came across. You may already know about it but in case you don't maybe this will be helpful. I recently was diagnosed with O.L.P. and L.P. of the skin and was having a horrible time figuring out what to do about brushing my teeth. An oral surgeon I had seen recommended the Crest Spin Pro brush which has been useful for me. I can control how close it gets to my gums since they are so sore and inflamed but my big find was the toothpaste I came across. I just started using "Tom's of Maine" Natural Toothpaste FOR KIDS. It comes in a wild strawberry flavor which is very very mild. This does not burn my mouth or gums at all. I hope this will help.

Best Wishes to All..
