Hi,

My husband was recently diagnosed with LFS after a genetic test. He has never had cancer himself and he's 34, and we are very thankful for that. We have two young children and are expecting a third. I'm trying to find out if anyone has had experience with cord blood banking and whether or not this is something that we should do with this next baby. At least 3 people in my husband's family have had leukemia, but he has a very large family, and I don't even know if cord blood can be used for all leukemia.

I also heard from our genetic counselor that some companies will do cord blood banking for free if someone in your immediate family has had leukemia. Does anyone have any experience with this particular part of it? Technically, no one in the immediate family has leukemia, but we do have the strong disposition to it.

If all else fails, I think that we plan to donate the cord blood and maybe help someone else's child/family member. Thanks, and I am so very thankful to have found this forum.

Hi,

I just joined so my reply may be too late if you already delivered ( congratulations!)... Viacord banked cord blood for free for me with a referral from my doctor. It might not work for you if there is not a sibling diagnosed but it it worth a try. Just call viacord. I think the program is called "sibling connect."
