Running on an elliptical trainer is actually fine. It's more akin to pedaling a bicycle while standing up with no pounding impact to the knees at all and, therefore, cannot damage the implants. It's very good cardio exercise....

I had a right knee replacement Nov. 14, 2012 and have gone to therapy every other day since. I can't get my knee to bend and I'm scheduled to have it manipulated May 7th 2013 and wonder if anyone has had to go thru this... I'm still having a lot of pain and don't know why.

 Hi all. Just joined the group. I had one TKR in 2007 and the other in 2009, and was wondering if anyone else has the same problem. Both knees are extremely tender to the touch. Also, I have discomfort and pain gong up/down stairs. All in all, I would rate my TKRs as not being very successful....

I had a partial knee replaced with a total knee on march 6th. I did not drive for a month just because I could not get in the vehicle lol and I sure did try :) I am doing more and more things every day. I am still using my cane but only when I leave the house now. Everyone is right in that everyone is different. When I had my partial recovery was a snap but this one has been more difficult. I wish you well and hope your surgery and recovery go smoothly....

Hi there and welcome to the group. I had my tkr/revision on March 6th so I know exactly how you are feeling lol! The first two weeks were awful. It does get better though. I went to Target today and did not use the electric cart :). I was questioning why I had done this to myself also but just remember that even though it hurts more now it is not a permanent pain. The pain you had before the surgery was not going to go away. Hugs to you and I hope you are feeling better soon....

Well, the difference is you need your right leg for the gas and brake petals -- assuming you live in the U.S. One is usually still on pretty heavy pain meds at only 7 days post-op, so I wouldn't advise driving at that point....

Each year, the U.S. News World Report publishes their list of the top orthopedic surgeons in the U.S. The list is established through a voting process by their peers. Those that make the list are considered by their peers to be in the top 10 percent of their field, while those names with a star are considered to be in the top 1 percent.

Arguments can be made that this list can be self serving because doctors vote for each other and may stuff the ballots as coworkers, but just consider your ...

I had a BTKR in September 2011 and during my recovery I decided to design post-op t-shirts for those of us who now have bionic parts. So as not to directly advertise with a link here, I'll just mention that anyone interested in such apparel can simply Google BCteez and probably find them. Zazzle sets the prices and I just get a $2 royalty for my shirt graphic - but, hey, it helps put gas in the old car these days.

Thanks....

Hi Joyce, thx for your reply! This has been the most painful surgery I have had also and I have a lot to compare to lol. The docs at the Mayo clinic will not even work with the oxford because they said it is so difficult to get the placement right. Very frustrating! I am also struggling with my pt. It is so painful. At least I got rid of my walker and have graduated to the cane. I even drove today for the first time a few blocks. We will have to stay in touch and maybe we can help each other ...

I had my tka on March 6th. I had a partial replacement before so I thought I was prepared for the pain! Boy was I wrong I finally went to my local dr (surgery done at Mayo) he said my swelling was way off the charts and ordered me to ice and elevate until mt PT started 5 days later and the pt agreed with him. It has worked wonders and I am feeling so much better! Hope you find some relief soon....

Hi, northjudi. I am so sorry your husband is having these problems. I assure you that he should have felt better long ago. Has an x-ray series been done after his surgery? My own orthopedic surgeon has me come back every year on the anniversary of my surgery to have them re-xrayed and to make sure everything is still in the right place. I would advise you strongly to start doing some research. The surgeon who put in the knee implants should have the brand and serial number of his implant in thei...

Had a Total knee 2 years ago that, no matter how extensive PT, it wouldn't straight. I went to the doctor once a month complaining of the growing pain. He said I wasn't doing my exercises, but as a former world class cyclist I know rehab. He said to lift weights, but it locked further. He said I would need to exercise my knee for the rest of my life. I went to the university hospital specialist and instantly said the knee was the wrong size and misaligned. With a revision the knee is fantasti...

I had both knees replaced May 2012. I'm very pleased with the results. I had very little pain post-op and have nearly regained prevoius strength stamina. I was alarmed at the mussel loss in my legs! Initially I was tired after walking just a few blocks, but am now OK with 5+ miles. Am a little dissapointed that Doc will not allow running. I exercised hard pre op and worked very hard at PT. I'm in average - good shape, 65 YO, and only slightly over weight. I'm now doing more with less pain than...

I'VE BEEN RIDING A SPINNING BIKE ...JUST SO THAT I CAN GET SOME EXERCISE.
I'M ON WEIGHT WATCHERS AND HAVE TO LOSE SOME WEIGHT.
DO YOU THINK THE SPINNING BIKE COULD BE DOING MY KNEE MORE HARM...THAT'S WHAT I'M CONCERNED ABOUT....OR IS THIS DOING MY WEIGHT AND MY KNEE SOME GOOD? I DO HAVE OSTEOARTHRITIS...AND NOT IN ANY PAIN...BUT THE XRAYS SAY THAT MY KNEE IS BONE ON BONE.
WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS.

Going to PT 3xs a week working on strenght and stamnia at this time as well as more flexibility.

I will return to work in 2wks if not sooner, and if the sleeping does not get better I will be a zombie. Set up a bed time schedule/routine and have stuck to it, really do not want to take sleepin...
