I had my left kidney removed last year. I had renel cell clear cell. Silent killer. I was 33 when they found it. It was found by accident. Mine was in the very early stages of stage 1. I had been in a car wreck and when the doctors done a MRI that is when they found it. I was fortunate that they found it cause I also have type 2 diabetes. That was a year ago. Today I feel a little better but they believe I might be the 3% in which it has returned we will know more over the next few weeks.

Hi ya,

Have you learnt any other information, if it has returned or not. Hopefully everything will be ok.

My mother had a nephrectomy in Jan 2008, she saw her oncologist yesterday and everything is clear so far, still time will tell is early days yet. I didnt realise that chemotherapy has no effect in kidney cancer, I was expecting my mother to have some kinda therapy but seems not. They have suggested her going on a trial drug which may keep it at bay, but were not sure whether to try it or not, can never tell when somethings still on trial whether it will do good or not bit of a risk. My mothers diagnose was stage 3 as tumour had grown quite large unfortunately. But shes doing really well shes recovered quickly from the operation, as you will have experienced is a major op. Its the psychological part of it really thats difficult to deal with some days shes ok, others not so good. Your lucky it was found in early stage and I hope your health is still ok, you mentioned you have diabetes type 2, my brother has diabetes type 1 his 43 now and his had it since he was 20, he seems to manage ok, he has to inject insulin three times a day, type 2 diabetes is not quite so bad.

Wishing you well

and let me know how you are getting on

Maddy

Mine was 3cm . Lucky mine was in the tissue. Not inside cavity of the kidney.Unlucky it was right around all the blood vessels. I had my kidney removed by laproscopic with hand assist. My hospital stay was only 3 days. Good luck with. Right now I am still cancer free. I am happy they found yours early. It is a silent killer as they say.

Hello all. Janel my grandmother had her tumor frozen a few months back and he tumor has not grown at all. Me on the other hand I was stage 3 (I think thats what the doctor told me), they found a 4 inch (10.2 cm)diameter tumor that I lived with for 4 to 5 years. They caught mine by chance. They did a biopsy on my tumor / kidney after my flank incision neprectomy. I wouldnt allow my doctor to do it laproscopic. 2 years cancer free now.

I didnt trust laproscopic surgery. Im a history buff, and I researched the history of the proceedure. I was more comfortable with the way it has been done from 1869 (I think that was the year that the 1st one was ever performed) to present day. Laproscopic has only been around since 1990. Plus had some one I worked with, his wife went in for a simple proceedure using the laproscopic method and the ruptured something and wound up cutting her open. So that totaly turned me off to laproscopic even further.
