From all the reports you hear from your regular Opthamalogist, they tell you there is no "cure" for Keratoconus, but can use contacts, intacs or possibly corneal implant to slow the progression of it. But now the United States has one Doctor who CAN cure it. He is World Reknown Dr. Boxer Wachler of the Boxer Wachler Vision Institute. And not only is the Dr. excellent, but you will NEVER go to a dr's office who has a better staff than Dr. Boxer Wachler!! I did TONS of research for a month and a half reading all kinds of medical journals on Opthamology, watching videos, you name it, I saw, or read it. My son is the most important thing in my life, and I could not see to have him go blind. His eye sight was already to the point he couldn't read his school books or his computer screen.

Today is my son's Birthday, 23 years old! Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

I took my son to CA to Dr Boxer Wachler's office to see about correcting his Keratoconus. We saw him on Wednesday and he went over my son's eye mapping and what he could do as well as what to expect. My son had very thin corneas, one being 480! The procedures were done on Thursday morning and went very well. After the surgery they give you a 'case' to hold your eye drops you need to use, and glasses to wear when outside as well as goggles you need to wear until the re-check, and when you sleep for the first couple weeks so there is no pressure on the eyes. We went back Friday for the re-check and everything was great! The eye mapping was looking so much better already. We flew home Sunday after spending Saturday sightseeing. He had his re-check at 5 days with the local eye Doc, and already his corneal thickness went from 480 to 525. We have another re-check next week, then he won't have another for 3-6 months. The Doctor let us know when he did the procedure that my son will need a new prescription for his glasses, and it will most likely change in 3 months as the eye heals. So far my son hasn't needed to wear ANY glasses!! We are very pleased. Dr Boxer Wachler has a 99.9% rate of complete healing on one treatment. He'd be 100% but one person required an additional treatment of the C3R.

While we were there I had my eyes checked because the glasses I'd just picked up I couldn't see through. They checked and the prescription they filled it with was totally NOT my prescription. He indicated that if I wanted, I could get PRK done the next morning while my son got his C3R and intacs done. So, that is what I did. I couldn't be more pleased! It was so painless, the re-check went well, and even though I still have a little haze, I can already tell my sight is going to be awesome when I'm completely healed!!

If anyone has any questions on the procedures, feel free to ask or go to Dr. Boxer Wachler's site at http://www.keratoconusinserts.com/.

Oh and one more thing about Dr Boxer Wachler, you not only get his PERSONAL email address, you also gives you his PERSONAL Cell Phone #, and he PERSONALLY CALLS YOU the evening you had surgery to check on you, your progress, make sure everything is ok, etc. He and his entire staff are so totally awesome, they really rock!! I would reccommend them to everyone! And even with a trip like we had, travel arrangements, flight, hotel, etc. it was more than worth it!!

Be sure to view the videos on Dr. Boxer Wachlers website also! http://www.keratoconusinserts.com/ For more info on Keratoconus click here: http://www.keratoconusinserts.com/

I wanted to post an update here. My son is doing so wonderfully. His vision is stable now and the Drs all say the Keratoconus is completely gone. This is so awesome.

When we got the news that my son had this and would be blind in a matter of 3-6 months it was so devastating to me. He had his entire future planned. He was to start Culinary School this Fall. He wanted to be a Chef and eventually have his own restaurants. But by what the drs told us, all this would be lost and he'd basically just sit around and do nothing all day, after all, how much can a blind person do?

Dr Boxer Wachler is a miracle worker. He did the procedures which saved my sons eyesight. He has given to us such a precious gift. My son starts this Fall at the Culinary School and is looking forward to fulfilling his dreams!

While we had my son's procedures done, I had PRK on my eyes, also by Dr Boxer Wachler. I am a 43 year old who has worn glasses since 12th grade. I was to the point that I couldn't see the time display on the clock 1' away from me at night in bed. I couldn't see anything without my glasses.

We had been in a auto accident last year and sometimes I black out and fall to the floor. (Drs still don't know why.) This was a major concern of mine, what if I fall and break my glasses...and if glass goes in my eyes. What if there is a fire at night, would I be able to take the time to get my glasses and get upstairs and get our handicapped son out of the house? Would it be fair to potentially risk his life just for my glasses? But how would I find him without them in the dark and fiery?

Dr Boxer Wachler has made miraculous changes in my vision as well. I can see to read a book, without glasses. I can see 1/4 mile plus on our property to see the wild deer, turkeys, bob cats, etc. with no glasses. (I can kiss my dear husband and not stab my glasses in HIS eyes...lol)

I will be honest, to go to CA to have this done, and be there the time required and pay for the procedures money had to be borrowed. But if you are faced with a situation of your child, spouse or self going blind and never being able to see again, or take out a small loan to have it saved...which would you do?

We chose sight. I hope you do too!

If you have any questions about the procedure, etc, feel free to post and ask me. I'm always happy to talk about Dr Boxer Wachlers office!

God Bless!
