Hello everyone I am new here. My name is Sally I have had IBS since I had my gallbladder out in 1995. I didn't know I have it until 2004 when my stooles became much more loose than before. It scared me because my grandfather had passed away from colon cancer before I was even born and my Father had palops removed from his. I don't know if they were cancerous or not. So I had been refered to an oncologist to have a colonoscopy done. they found a spot and said I would have to come back in 3 months to see if that spot had gone away. If it did not they it was probly cancer. Luckily when I went back 3 months later it was gone. I was put on some kind of meds to control the IBS but due to restrictions on medical insurance at the time I had to cut out some of my meds because I was only allowed 6 per month on the assistance card and I could not afford to pay out of pocket expenses. Well not that I am in a different state and different medical insurance I am able to get more med but I cannot remember the name of the med. My family doctor put my colestid to see if that would help and it only contipated me and get me extreme gas and bloating. I cannot take over the counter meds cause it does the same thing but if I knew the name of the other I think it would help me again. I know it started with an L and it is not Lamodel or how ever you spell it because they I know didn't work. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I have alot of problems with gas and bloating that leaves me with loud gurgles coming from my stomache that can be very embarrassing. It is embarrassing just talking about this here but I need to find some suggestions or something. Thank you Sally

Hey Sally! My name is Katherine and i suffer from mild IBS due to stress. I know what you mean about bloating and gurgling.. i often feel like i have the pacific ocean in my stomach! My dad is not very supportive of it all and tells me off for being rude but to be truthful there's nothing to be embarrassed of ashamed of. Presently i'm on mebevarine and it cut down my toilet trips alot although somedays my IBS is just too bad!

Stay strong and i look forward to your reply.

Kat x

Hi Kat. I am sorry to hear that your dad is not very supportive. Have you gotten brochures to show him about it?

I used to joke with my ex husband and now with my mom telling them I have sumo wrestlers in there and not to worry about it they will settle down in there shortly..LOL I will try and suggest that med to my doc and see what he says. But right now my bowel movements are all different. Some days I am running to the bathroom 3 to 5 times a day. Then the next day I may not go at all. Then I could have a reg movement once the next day and none the next. I could deal with the not going if I didn't get so bloated and crampy. Plus the gas I get is unreal. Well thanks for your reply.

Sally

Hey!

I sorta get a bit embarrassed talking to him about it. I go between 2 and 5 times a day; cant remember the last time i went once! I like the sumo wrestlers comment. I try and joke with my boyfriend about it just to lighten the mood; although sometimes i just find it gets me down x

yeah I know what you mean....I mostly get embarrassed in church if I have to go while service because it there only 2 stalls and it is a small church so most everyone knows who gts up and when they come back. The bathroom is so small and it kind of echoes in there so when you have the runs like that and it contains gas with it it is pretty noisy int he bathroom not to mention smelly..lol But the one stall is out of order so we cannot use it.

DO NOT let your dad take you off the meds. The next time you are there to your docs, get a pamphlet on IBS. Look in the pamphlet for the severity and the causes of IBS if left untreated and show it to him or even better yet ask your doctor for information on what can happen if IBS is left untreated. Mine was left untreated for quiet a while and I wound up with ulcers in my colon. I am not taking meds for mine right now because they haven't found anything to work for me yet. My body is so sensative to some of the med I get completely constipated. But if those meds are working for you for the most part DO NOT let your dad stop you from taking them. I will be praying for you and your dad as well.

Hey!

I'm not going to, i do listen to his advice because he's a pharacist but i listen to my doctor and my body. My meds are to slow down my bowel movements and to make me more regular. Everytime i talk about my IBS to Dad he says "i've never met someone so obcessed with their bowels!" and then makes jokes about what i'm going through with my sister. See i can put up with this sometime but not others .

I only want him to be supportive! And patient! This is a real illness not something i'm making up! And it's playing up today big time! x
