saralaurie"In the 3 months I have been with MDJunction I have developed a sense of calmness. I now friends who do not judge me because I have been a mental mess at times. It is such a good feeling to have friends I can tell my deepest thoughts and always get back to me with their support. I have never seen a therapist for long periods of time. Right or wrong, this is the best therapy possible for me. Thanks Roy for getting this up and running and making such a difference in my life. Sara" (saralaurie)

Hello everyone.

When you have IBS, do the symptoms "hit" you right away after you've eaten? Or does it take awhile? I've noticed that I don't hurt all the time and I don't have bowel troubles. I did have constipation about two months ago, but it's gotten better and "normal" since my doc put me on stool softeners.

Thanks.

Be more specific, Bea (it's okay here). What symptoms are you inquiring about?

I rarely have any pain, and if I do, it's usually during a strained bowel movement and I feel the pain in my abdomen, mostly.

My IBS was always constipation until this last year when meds turned it around to the other side. Dizzy

Anyway, I first noticed a severe bloating problem. Then I realized I hadn't "gone" in several days. I would pump in laxatives, go, then bulk up again. I thought I was doing all the right things....extra fiber, yogurt, trying to drink more fluids, but all of this just sat in my system, fermenting and bloating. I couln't get it out. I couldn't GO!

If you don't have a bowel movement in four or five days, and you think back to all tht you've eaten in that time, it's pretty scary that it's all just sitting there and not moving. Talk about clogged plumbing.

Draino anyone!?! Wink I'm not sure about the symptoms. The only thing I've complained to the doctor about (not mine, the surgeon) was that my right side hurt. He would ask me if food made things different, or if passing stool made it different. I told him no. It hurt weather or not I went to the bathroom...and it didn't change with anything I ate. I'm not real sure about the bloating (I'm kinda squishy..lol) but I haven't noticed my clothes feeling different...if anything, they've been looser.

Looser is good. And I love the Draino idea! Laughing

Have you see a gastroenterologist?

Yeah, I've seen a gastroenterologist. (wow that's a long word! lol) He's the one that did my last colonoscoppy. I can't see him again until I get a referal from my doctor...and my doctor is on vacation till next week or the middle of the week after. Personally I wish I had answers already, but what can ya do? Wink

That seems strange that you need another referral to see him again. Is that just policy in your state?

It's policy for my insurance. I don't want to risk having to pay for all of the visit, so I'd rather be safe than sorry. Smile

I don't blame you. It just seems ridiculous, and now I'm not surprised. Just another way to jack up insurance prices...requiring extra doctor visits to get referrals to specialists you've already seen. Can anyone say "crock"?

I have both constipation and pain ;-( but I don't get it all the time. It comes and goes as it wants but usually stays for a week or two when arrives. I'm like open house LOL
