Hi Smd, thanks for writing of your experieces. I have been a lifelong sufferer of insomnia. I get a little more sleep than you did. Usually 5 hours on average but not enough sleep to focus, function and deal with the day as one should. It has affected every area of my life. It got worse when my mom died and also when under alot of stress and anxiety over things. But I relate to what you said about the hyposomnia where your body is always tired, for that's how I feel daily. At night I can't fall asleep even when my eyes are burning tired. I take sleep meds for years now and it still takes me a couple hours to fall asleep. Then wake up dead tired and barely make it through the day without having to nap. I believe it has affected my hormones, caused more depression and axniety as well as weight gain.

I really do need to see a sleep doc. I need to get all my levels of sleep measured for I know they are not right. I don't think I have sleep apnea but there is something for sure that is off balance and has been for years. I can no longer put the sleep study off. It's really affecting the quality of life I have.

Having the courage to walk step by step each day.

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind always be on your back.
May the sun lie warm upon your face.
And until we meet again,
May the Lord hold you
In the hollow of His hand.

I have to say, in my opinion, that knowing what's going on, even if you can't cure it right then, helps tremendously. Perhaps once I get some insurance, I'll go have one done. I'm stuck between just random reasons for insomnia(that unknown) and insomnia from pain levels being out of control. Thanks smd for writing all of your experiences on here. I hope that they have helped someone and I'm sure they have, even if it's just knowing they aren't alone in this.
