I don't remember if I posted an intro on this forum yet, apologies if not. I'm just too exhausted to tell the whole story. Let me put it this way - I'm pretty messed up because I belong to 17 forums here!

Has anyone had experience with this? It's when the body is asleep and paralyzed but the mind is still awake? Just google "sleep paralysis" and you'll see how terrifying this can be. Several weeks ago it happened when I was "napping" for two hours. TV was on, body had gone to sleep and the TV noise was making me think I had an intruder. Than I heard the intruder hurting my poor kitties. Couldn't move and even saw a demon in the corner of the room. At one point "halluncinatd" and saw four of everything. Totally bizarre. When I finally was awake physically I was scared out of my wit's, dripping sweat and heart racing. It was 4:30am and I was scared to go back to sleep.

Anyway, just started to happen again. Laid down for a nap and went my body drifted into sleep, my mind was still awake and I had to struggle to move. This happened at least four times before I just decided to get up as tired as I am. I'm wondering if this is due the the HUGE financial burden I'm under, but who knows.

Sorry bout the long post, just wondering if anyone has heard or experienced this??

Thanks for listening!

Hi Leslie, I can't say that I have had such a bizzare episode, but have often felt my body was asleep but not my mind. What meds do you take since this is probably the culprit. Pretty scarey, I bet.

Welcome to our group. Please, visit us often and keep us posted on how you are feeling, we are glad to have you as part of the family.

Elizabeth:

I'm on 100 mgs of Lamictal (I'm bipolar), 1 mg Xanax PRN for anxiety, 80 mgs of Generic Prisolec for acid reflux, and 5mg Ambien PRN. I "googled" Lamcitcal and "sleep paralysis", and it did indeed list this as a possible RARE side effect. Of course you know with any med, there is a whole laundry list of side effects, most which even mention death. I had switch my previous "mood stabilizer" to a "weight neutral because the last one (Seroquel) caused an 80lb weight gain in five months, which in turn triggered a relapse into my Bulimia that I had licked for 5 years. So I refuse to take any that cause weight gain. Anyway, not only am I a chronic insmoniac, but have BP2, Major Depression, Social Anxiety, Panic attacks, and SERVERE agoraphobia. Let me just say I'm pretty messed up...LOL..

I'll keep you guys posted. And thanks for the welcome!

What do your drs say about the sleep paralysis? That would freak me out. I'd be at the ER shaking in my boots!

I agree with Amy, I would be shaking in my boots also.

Leslie, you are not all messed up honey. It just takes time to tweak all the meds you might need to start feeling better again. It is like a merry go round, that is for sure. Do keep us posted, I am with you on this one. Stay strong, we are here for you sweetness.

Ah and besides, who wants to be "normal"? What's that anyway? Bland, vanilla, egh. We're just flavorful. Not messed up. Flavorful!

Haven't gotten to ask my doctor yet. My psych has moved to the combat psych ward and I'm looking at a 3 month wait for my regular doctor at VA. Unfortunately I'm broke, unemployed, and have no other options nowSad

Thanks Elizabeth:

I actually found it a bit comical when I noticed I'm on SEVENTEEN forums. I do need to "unjoin" the hysterectomy group. I was looking for an answer regarding an endometrial ablation I'm about to undertake and couldn't find any other relative forum..

Thanks again for you kindnessCool
