I still struggle with sleep sometimes, but I've had a lot of success lately due to learning some important things about sleep.

Mainly,

1. Preparing for sleep. Not just brushing my teeth, getting into the jammies and turning the lights out. I'm talking about a 10-20 minute period of time where I transition from the business and stress of the day to the idea and goal of sound sleep.

One way I do this is with a sleep preparation ritual, usually where I will read a boring book to help me start feeling more drowsy.

2. Creating a better sleep context

I used to watch movies until I fell asleep. I then learned that this was training my body and mind in the wrong way and that the bed should be for sleep and love-making only. This helped a lot.
