Good morning ladies! Didn't realize there was a support group for 'hypothyroidism'!! I am EXHAUSTED all the time!! Is that normal? I was just diagnosed in Oct. 08, but I am SO different than I used to be!! I am also bipolar, OCD, personality disorder, & have ADHD. My ADHD meds used to keep me hyper & going ALL day, but not anymore! The first throid meds (Levo??) I was put on was great, for the first week, then I got MEAN!! The 2nd med,(Cytomel) before I knew what was happening, I was trying to kill myself!! This is too weird for me, so as of right now I'm on no meds at all.

If anyone has had similar experiences or is bipolar as well & has any suggestions, please, please let me know what works for you! I CAN'T be this tired all the time! On top of all my 'garbage', I have a handicapped daughter that I need to take care of! Being this tired won't work!! Thank you so much for any info anyone could provide for me!!

Have a great day ladies, & thank you again!!!

Chele

Welcome to the group and I am glad that you found us. I don't know about the bipolar and other things. But, I do know about being tired and I also have an autistic child so I know about trying and having to keep up.

Hugs,

Hi Chele and welcome to the group. Yes I think MDJ has a group for everything under the sun.

I have bipolar disorder as well as hypothyroidism. I am surprised you reacted the way you did to the Levothyroxine. I have not heard of that before but then again I am no expert. Thats what I take anyway and thank God it works for me. I found out I had hypothyroidism through routine blood work for taking Lithium and didn't think I had any symptoms. Now I know I was tired all the time and had trouble losing weight even when dieting. Now I am losing weight and awake all day. As a matter of fact often I feel like I am never going to be tired even at night. I am greatful to the Levothyroxine. I don't know of too many alternatives. I have heard of synthroid and also something called armour but I think armour might be an alternative to regular meds. Your thyroid is messed up and you really need to be taking something to make it right. Consider trying the Levo again. Talk to your doctor.

Mandy,

Thank you for the welcome! It's nice to know that I'm not the ONLY one trying to cope with my 'garbage' as well as a 'special needs' child! Often I ignore my own medical needs due to my daughters needs! I now know that she'll be no good if I'm no good! How about if 'WE' hang in there together?

You have a great day & an even better weekend! I try to get back to website as often as possible but can't always get here. You can also reach me at mishy65@peoplepc.com

Yvonne,

Thank you so much for replying!! Because of my ADHD I tend to go on & on, so sorry if I rambled!!! The Levo??? was great for me! I felt the effects the very first day!! Didn't need a nap the first morning I took it! After 1 1/2 to 2 wks, I found myself getting really 'mean' toward my fiance & daughter early evening hours. Every single thing they did got on my nerves!! I snapped at them until they just stayed away from me!! Recently at a shrink appointment, she reduced my Effexor XR due to being on a 'mean high'!! Maybe that was the problem with the Levo?? You may have a point! I may have to try it again now that I am off my 'mean high'? At this point, I am willing to try anything! At least with the Levo?? I wasn't suicidal!!! In fact, I am going to call my gyno doc today & ask for new scrip!!

Thank you again! I try to get in here as much as possible, but with my daughter, I am running a lot!! Have a great week & hope to talk with you soon!!

Good morning Chele. Welcome to the group. Being EXAUSTED all the time is normal. You will have to have lots of blood tests to determine what dosage of levo you should be on. So yes it's normal to be exausted and to have mood swings.

Hi and welcome, I haven't been on in awhile due to the same reasons. I am over loaded and I too have a child with autism. I have suffered for over 9yrs with FMS and also diagnosed with CFS (which is being exhausted all the time). I once was told I showed signs of bipolar but it was actually the environment and everything going on in my life and once I changed that, things got better (at least in that area). As for thyroid, I have tried different ones, I don't get the same affects as you did but I still seem to have a hard time with it, especially generic. They can't seem to get mine right. Then I was told by several that my adrenals had a part to play in all of this and possible pituitary but when a blood test was ran along with other thyroid test, nothing showed up. I was told those test are not always accurate. I know when my dosage was raised, I was awake and going all day and night to later be told that the next test showed I was taking too much. Make sure that your thyroid med is not interacting with or if you take any other meds and take them 2 or more hours apart. (just a thought). write a diary everyday and write down all your symptoms everyday and when you take your meds etc.. and see if after a week you can pin point anything. (just another thought) I know when I do, it helps for my daughter and I, especially when you are trying to figure out things for yourself cause doctors don't seem to know and are too busy. Plus it helps getting your doctor to look into other possibilities when you have monitored everything. Well I hope things get better for you.

Kari

Chele,

I get that mean high too. Its called a mixed state in the bipolar world. I hate when it happens. I just went through the very same thing. I had everyone mad at me because I spewed venom all over everyone. Maybe it was going to happen to you anyway and had nothing to do with the Levo. I hope if you try it again everything goes smoothly.
