Good Morning! I was recently diagnosed and put on 50 mcg of Levothyroxine. It has been 8 days now, and for the last 3 nights, I have had very strange and vivid dreams that wake me up several times during the night. I am more tired now from lack of sleep than I was before the diagnosis. Anyone else have this "issue" and could it be the Levothyroxine?

Not with the levothyroxine, but when I take Tylenol 3 before bed (tooth aches) I have crazy vivid nightmares, and wake up constantly. Idky

Sounds like perhaps codeine doesn't agree with you, Malorie.

It sounds to me like the Synthroid is doing its job. I would give it some time. I started out on 50mcg too, and even though that ended up being way less than I ultimately needed (I'm on 137 now), I could feel powerful changes going on right away. My heart felt like it might beat out of my chest - not a rapid beat, but just a powerful strong feeling. I had some insomnia too. It was kind of like my body had been starved of thyroid hormone for so long that once it got even a little, it started getting excited, and for a week or so acted maybe even hyperthyroid-ish. It wasn't long before that all settled down and then I realized I felt HYPO again. I went through this cycle 4 times. I would get an increase in dosage by the doctor and then just as I described would happen all over again until finally I stabilized on 137. But even during the weird experiences of temporary HYPER symptoms, I could feel the T4 and T3 healing all my HYPO issues; my limbs felt lighter, my joints stopped aching - I could feel a light buzzing sensation in my joints as if the hormone was healing the perpetual tendinitis I had, and the headaches were going away, etc. Long story short - my advice is to give it a good few weeks on any new dosage to let things settle down into a new normal. Sorry such a long post Smile

Best of luck!

Nick

Thanks for your reply, Nick. I was planning on giving it a couple of weeks before I start getting too worried. I think you're probably right as I do feel better in some other aspects, i.e. joint pain is diminished, brain fog is lifting and I just feel a bit more alert in general. I waited way too long for someone to finally hear me and do something about it, so I'm not going to give up on treatment very easily. I SO want to feel healthy again!!! Thanks again!
