re: magnesium -- one does not have to get it through prescription. there is a brand -- which can be ordered online -- THORNE -- magnesium citrate -- it's excellent. i take about 3 - 4 of them a day. magnesium citrate supposedly does NOT cause the loose bowels problem that the other forms of magnesium cause. so far, i have found that to be true.

i agree with circle about taking magnesium AND vitamin D -- both are essential when one has hypothyroidism. also i buy B-100's at trader joe's and take 2 - 3 of those a day -- vitamin B is also essential. ditto for selenium and zinc.

good luck to all. i'm just living with hypothyroidism one day at a time.

what my endocrinologist told me was that the side effects are caused NOT by the levothyroxine or the synthroid but by the fillers. so if anyone is in a state where there are compounding pharmacies, please consider having your thyroid prescription done by one of those kinds of pharmacies. here in WA state we have MANY compounding pharmacies. if at all possible, only get ONE filler -- the microcellulose.

Annie!

hello buster- i take iodoral for my thyroid disease.

i'm only taking the levothyroxine because i'm trying to humour the doctors who keep insisting that i'm NOT really allergic to it even though i had horrible side effects in 1998 when i first took it and i'm having horrible side effects this time around too.

why don't doctors ever listen to us? why do they think we are all airheads who don't know our own bodies?

i recommend the writings of dr david brownstein. he is one noted authority on iodine use in thyroid treatment.

knowledge is power.

blessings to all.

annie!

for hashimoto's --iodine supplementation is not recommended, by the way.

Annie!

Sorry it has been so long since replying, but they did up my medicine and am still having my hair fall out, still increasing weight, and lethargic. I don't return to the doctor until April. I wish this treatment was simple.

buster -- please start doing web searches.

did the doctors ever check your adrenal function? that could be an explanation for being lethargic. many people who have thyroid disease also have adrenal issues.

good luck to you.
