Hypothyroid ForumsGeneral & SupportHypothyroid ~ Why are you hypo?

I really don't know why I was ever hypo? I have been hypo or the past 24 years. I had my Vitamin D level checked in January and my endo kinda freaked when he saw that my level was 8 when the lab work says it's supposed to be between 32 and 60. He put me on RX Vitamin D - if I remember it's 50,000 iu twice a week? Not sure about that, though.

I have always had my PCP check my thyroid - never went to an endo. I have Fibromyalgia, so back in October I asked my PCP for every single piece of labwork he had on me over the last 15 years. To my surprise, even though I was always classified as Hypothyroid, my highest level during that 15 year period was .8. It ranged from .01 to around .4 - one time it actually went to .8.

When endo checked it in January of this year, it was:

TSH: .04

FSH: 92.5 range - 1.0-12.0

LH: 22.5 range - 1.0-12.0

Parathyroid Hormone: 146.0 range - 10.0 - 69.0

So even though I am hypo, I am now hyper. Endo told me that I have been overmedicated for yes, 15 years. I am wondering if my PCP has literally fried my thyroid because of this. Even though I haven't changed my eating habits, I have lost 28 lbs in one year. LOL - I'm really not complaining about that one!! ...and about a month ago, my pulse rate has gone from being normal to averaging 104 to 107 beats per minute even at rest and skips a beat. Go figure?

I am curious, has anyone else ever had this happen to them?

Sorry so long and sorry I haven't been on the site in so long, but had a lot going on with the Fibro and health problems, yada, yada.

**Welcome to all the new members by the way - I'm glad you're here!. I've missed you all terribly.**

Kay

MsModelSara~

Sorry that I left that out, sometime I forget where I am. Two years ago, I had Follicular Thyroid cancer and the treatment is to remove your thyroid and then give you radioactive iodine to get rid of any other thyroid cells in your body (this is treatment for my type and one other type of thyroid cancer). Mine had started to spread and I think that is one reason my parathyroid never worked after the surgery. Follicular is one of the most treatable thyroid cancers to have and once you are 5 year without a recurrence you are considered cancer free.

Hi Kay,

I've been hypothyroid since 2005 officially, and never had anything but TSH measured. I have experieinced the hard/rapid heartbeats you mentioned...never told my Dr. about it though, because half the time I go in my bp is high and they try to tell me I have hypertension. *rolling my eyes* Having hypothyroidism raises bp, as well as cholesterol and I just learned has an impact on Vitamin D levels (which when low also raises bp).

But having hyperthyroidism will raise your heart rate quite a bit...so even when resting your heart is racing...which can damage your heart if it isn't treated. ANd that is terrible that you have been over medicated for so long. Ever think about a law suit on that?

Kay~

Wow, you PTH levels are really high! What did the doctor say about that? Mine are next to nothing because mine does not work due to the thyroidectomy (see my previous post to MsModelSara).

The last time I went to the endo (two weeks ago) my thyroid levels were way to high. I had been on 250mcg of Synthroid and lost a little over 25 pounds (yea Smile) so she dropped me down to 200 mcg. To bad that I didn't feel hyper... Sad The dosing is based on your weight and then like me if you do not have a thyroid you dose is higher. My heart rate was also a little high but, my blood pressure was in the tank. My blood pressure runs low normally. The only time that it has ever been "normal" has been while I was pregnant 8 months plus.
