MDJunction to me

MissNikkiAnn"When you have an illness with the name "Non-Familial Dysautonomia" (a name that most people, and even doctors, have never heard of), you need a network
of people who understand the name and the symptoms/issues that come with it.
MDJunction led me to that network of people during a very confusing and sickly time. For this I am thankful. And for this reason I try my best to give back to other members the same care and help that I received through MDJunction.

I am new to all of this...I am going to the dr on friday and am sure they will start me on thyroid medication. they told me over the phone yesterday that I had hashimoto disease..I have been online reading info about it..I have been feeling anxiety or as one member said a heart fluttering feeling.. like I got the wind knocked out of me. its very scary because I feel like I could pass out. I feel like I am in a daze and my mind is playing tricks on me but I guess that is my thyroid calling for help. they told me my thyroid was so low it was as if I had none. scary feeling, no wonder why I cant loose these 30 pounds..of course I wish there was a miracle drug out there to make it all go away and for me to loose my weight and to get energy and not tired for doing absoutley nothing. I feel so lazy..my hair is falling out my arms feel heavy...sorry if I feel like I am complaining but if anyone can relate let me know I want as much info as possible..I will post on what my dr wants me to do. I am not one to take pills so this wont be fun..I just want to feel normal again Sad

Welcome nwmum!!!

Sorry you aren't feeling well. I can sympathize having had most of the same symptoms. But you have a diagnosis, and a dr appointment. Yes you will probably be put on meds. Don't expect an overnight miracle, it takes some time for them to work into your system, and sometimes it takes a while to get your dosage adjusted. It took almost a year to get mine right, but finally I can say that I feel pretty darn good!!

Keep reading as much as you can, check up on how foods affect your thyroid levels... avoid raw cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli and try to limit your sugars and carbs, but there are some others.

Good luck at the dr!!

thank you for your reply..do you know of any vitamins that might be useful or is it ok to still take my one a day vitamin..its crazy bc i feel like my multi vitamin is not doing anything but that is probably because i have not started my thyroid medication yet. tomorrow i will see what they put me on. feeling so fatigued right now. its always happens after i eat. i get a boost of energy for like 15 min then i want to take a nap..this is an awful thing to have

Hello nwmum and Welcome to our group ~~~ We re small and sometimes days will pass without new posts here. Being group leader , I try to check in every day and welcome PMs from those that just want to chat Smile rather than post but either way is fine.

I am sorry you are feeling so poorly and hope that it will all go away soon . However, sadly, it takes much time for meds to take effect and for one to feel better. Human bodies (especially females) seem to be very complex to say the least.

I can relate to the thyroid so low, it is as if you have none ~~~ Four years ago when I was dx d, my PCPs' exact words were ""Well, the first thing we have to do is jump-start your thyroid"" and it has been an uphill battle ever since.

I am now on 100mcg once daily Levothyroxine but have bottles of other dosages on the shelf because it seems that my levels change everytime I have blood work done. Sad

I also have Fibromyalgia so many days it is hard to tell if it is the Hypo or Fibro making me exhausted.

If I were you, I would continue the multi vitamin . Vitamins are not necessarily for energy but for our immune systems . May I ask what vitamin you are taking ? I take Womens' One-A-Day and my Gyno and PCP say that is the best OTC vitamin for women.

I look forward to chatting with you again and hope you ll stop back to let us know what your dr. says on Friday .

Marilyn

Try to go lighter on carbs and that may help your being tired after eating. Whenever I eat a high carb meal (pizza, pasta, breads) I just want to curl up and sleep. My BF calls me his little hamster!!

As Marilyn said a multi vitamin is ok ( I take the same one Marilyn! Glad to hear your dr likes it).

Other than strep throat when I was a teenager, I never had any health issues. A year ago, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. All I can say is it was like being hit in the head with a brick. Me? have a health issue and have to take a pill every morninng?

So, I know how you feel now. Its kinda scary and frustrating. Personally, I think you need medication immediately. Why are they waiting?

Good things since I begin taking syntroid: I now sleep thru the night. I used to wake up around 2am to 3am every night. I have a little more energy during the day. I can think more clearly. I look forward to breakfast. When something funny happens, I sometimes cant stop laughiing-its been years since that happened. My bathroom use is now regular except briefly when medication dosage is increased or decreased. My blood pressure actually went down alot. It was mildly elevated and not I'm 118/68.

Hang it there, things will get better...just remember it will take time. Please keep us posted on your status and feel free to vent. Smile ! it helps.
