Hi guys. So first of all i apologize that i have questions to ask but no answers to give to you guys becaause really i dont understand much about this condition besides that i have it. But as i get better with that ill be more than happy to help. Anyways, the way i sleep is really odd. Like the positions i sleep in. My ankles hyperextend inwards and my wrist do as well so that my thumbs are touching my wrists. Is that bad for you? I mean today my left wrist felt a bit limp for a few hours. Do you think it would help if at night i wore ace bandages on my ankles and wrists to keep them in proper position and tighter? Or would that do no good? Have any of you ever tried anything like that? Thanks guys : 7 )

I am not hypermobile, just interested in the topic, so I can't offer personal experience. We advise nighttime splinting for a number of conditions, so it would make sense. There is a type of ankle brace that looks like a tennis shoe without soles, toes, or heel that should be both quite effective and easy to wear. Strap-on wrist braces are readily available and are fairly comfortable, but pull-on elastic wrist braces might be good enough and more comfortable. For your feet, putting a pillow between the sheets will lift the top sheet off your feet and might be a good thing either with or without ankle braces.

In theory, at least, the hyperextension (or hyperflexion) will aggravate the joint instability.

I think that using bracing at night would be ok. You just don't want to use them all the time. I also put a pillow between my knees at night to keep them and my hips from hurting as bad in the mornings. Yes, it usually ends up elsewhere during the night but it does help while it's there.

If you've tried them, has it helped you?

I've slept with braces on my wrists many times when the pain has been so bad it hurt to remove them. I find them fairly comfortable to sleep in. I hope you were able to find something that worked for you!
