MDJunction to me

jpcrps"When I found MD Junction, I was in the beginning stages of RSD/CRPS. I was scared, lacked knowledge about the condition, and felt very alone.

MD Junction changed all of that for me. I found friendship and terrific information from people who had first-hand knowledge of this syndrome. It was and still is a big part of my life.

MDJ was my first step on the journey of grief; from denial to acceptance. I am now inspired to help others by sharing this amazing site and sharing my own experiences. I am very impressed that one forum site can provide hope and inspiration to people suffering from so many different conditions. I am proud to be a part of this community.

I made a account a few years ago but haven't really used mdjunction much sense,so I'm going to re-introduce myself before I start using the forums again.I'm Tim and I was born with hydrocephalus,or I developed it as a newborn.I wasn't diagnosed after 17 months of almost constant screaming and a severe lack of motor skills.I was diagnosed by a volunteer nurse at a clinic for families in poverty, after my parents were told twice by doctors that I didn't have it,and that nothing was wrong with me.After my shunt was placed I went from not being to hold up my head to crawling and being able to pull myself up.I continued to struggle to meet milestones all together, let alone at the same age as other kids. With research in the last few years along with a lot of things I've found out that much of what I've struggled with has to do with ataxia.I couldn't speak until I was 4 and only was able to start because of speech therapy, and I still have a speech impediment.I've never had any revisions and my shunt is currently 24+ years and draining.I'm thankful for not having a childhood that was a merry go round of hospital visits, but the hardships that I had to deal with that has to do with my hydrocephalus but not "normal" at least kind of replaced that.I didn't have shunt problems growing up either, but I've been having a lot of them lately but so far have still not needed surgery other than the one I had as a toddler.

The main thing I've been really interested in and usually good at since I was a kid has been writing.I got started because it's always been easier to show my creativity and emotions that way then any other way, especially more than talking.I wrote a lot more in school, rather it was with poems or creative stories,or being a over achiever with research projects. For the last few years the only writing I have really done was on facebook, but my boss encouraged me to get back into it.While figuring out where else I can use my skill I've started a blog. With it I've been trying to provide info about hydrocephalus or neurological disorders in general that isn't heavily available.Until recently almost none of it has been available, and I don't want others to deal with the same things that I along with many others did and at least not know what's going on.

Hi there, and welcome back! While I don't have a speech impediment I also enjoy doing some writing as I find it a good outlet
*I am only a person who deals with these conditions, and NOT a doctor in anyway (and believe me, you wouldnt want me to be one anyway.) I am giving the advice of someone who as been through it. If you are looking for advice that is ment to cure, or diagnose, please consult a doctor.*

Hi Tim,

It HAS been a LONG time! Welcome back! Smile

There was a guy that posted sometime back regarding frontal lobe injuries and the need to "wax poetic". Wink Apparently, there is some kind of connection that these kinds of brain injuries "allow" us to enjoy writing.

It is good to see you active again.
