MDJunction to me

grandmasylvia"MDJ has been "a soft place to fall" for me as Dr Phil says. I have this very painful rare disease Dercum's Disease and take comfort in finding others here who share their knowledge and compassion. Many
members have helped me just by understanding my anguish and validating
my pain. We are working together to encourage research toward a cure.

Sorry For The Life Story =]

Hi, Im Nearly 21 Years Old. I Was Born With Hydrocephalus... I Had My First cfs Shunt Put In At 13 Weeks Old. This Consisted Of 2 Lots Of Surgery. When I was 5 My Doctor Said That It Had Stopped Working And It HAD To Be Removed. My Parents Inquired And Said No That It Wasnt Harming Me And That They Will No Put Me Through Another Surgery If It Is Not Necessary. (Like Any Parent Would)

Over The Years I Have Suffered From Constant Headaches, And Everything I Would Get Dragged To The Doctors And Sometimes Hospitalised. But The Doctors Would Just Say "It's Not Eating Properly, Or Dehydration.

Then When I Was 17 My Brother Was Murdered And My Father With Cancer So They Put It Down To The Stress Of That And Sent Me To A Psych.

3 Months Before My 19th Bday I Had My Beautiful Son. Due To Complications On The Midwive's Part I Had To Have A C-Section. During The C-Section The Midwive Just 'Forgot' To Inform The Doctor That I Had A Shunt. Put It Out Of My Stomach. Wassat Since Then Headaches Were Getting Worse.

June Last Year My Son Headbutted Me In The Chest.... The Pain Was Unbelievably Bad. I Went To The Doctors And He Told Me Its Bruised Dont Worry About It. Then Gradually A Lump Formed And Kept Growing, I Ignored It Due To My Father Being Very Ill And Being Flown To Brisbane Hospital All The Time, He Died 5 Times Last And They Bought Him Back. The Lump Eventually Grow That Big That The Skin Was Bruising So I Went Back To The Doctors And They Send Me For An Ultrasound. I Had The Ultrasound But The Doctor That Did It Wanted A CT Scan So I Had That. To Find That When I Had The C-Section The Doctor Dislodged My Shunt And When My Son Headbutted Me It Flung Up And Coiled In My Chest And Was Pumping The Fluid Into There. A Couple Of Week Later On 26th December Last Year The Fluid Had Eroded Away The Last Layer Of Sin On My Chest And Began To Leak. I Was Flown To Brisbane Hospital. And Operated On On The 27th. They Pulled My Shunt Out Of My Chest And Had It Draining. Then Later That Night My Shunt Spilt, And Started Leaking Out Of The Skin. First Thing The Nex Morning I Went Back In And Had The Whole Thing Replaced. Everything Went Well Apparently.

But Since Then I Have Been Getting Massive Headaches That Leave My Crying In Pain. The Slightest Movement Of Any Part Of My Body And I Experience, My Hands And Feet Go Tinglely And Get Stuck In One Position And Cramp, My Eyes Hurt And Are Very Sensitive To Light, I Get Dizzy Spells, And Feel Like Im Going To Vomit, My Neck Always Hurts. Hot And Cold Sweats And Flushes.

PLEASE Help I Cant Keep Living Like This I Have A 2 Year Old To Think About And Im Scared To Leave Him Again =[

Your symptoms do sound very bad, and I would suspect a shunt infection, or a shunt malfunction. This sounds pretty serious and you need to a NS right away. Sad

Completely agree with Mary, go see an NS...And if you can't get an appointment for a while hit the ER! They'll at least run some tests on you to hopefully narrow things down

That's where YOU have to call, and even pester on occasion and ask for a follow-up

Yes, you should have had a follow-up by now. That is unusual. So, you are going to need to take the initiative.

I'll be praying for you.

Thank You Very Much =] I Will Have To Go To My Doctor And Get A Referral To Go To A NS As That's The Only Way We Can Do It Here.
