7 years ago my brother was run over by a car and the driver fled. He was for more than 4 years in therapy to recover completely, and he was in a weelchair for 8 months.

I was with him at the time. I saw everything, but it's all a blur. I know it was a white car, something long and dirty, but I can't remember anything else. We were crossing the street regularly, and that car just wouldn't stop, while we were in the middle of the road. I jumped over, but my brother was cought under the wheels. It all happened very fast, and the driver didn't even slow down. There weren't any witnesses, there were a few people around but they all turned after it had happened, and they were pretty far. It was a matter of seconds. Nobody even heard anything, until I started screaming.

I saw the car approaching. There is no way on Earth I would remember its license number or the face of the driver, not even what type of car it was. The case was closed, they never cought him.

It was suggested at the time that I try hypnosis. My mom didn't agree to it. I too was a little afraid and also skeptical.

Is it true that you can relive a past episode through hypnosis and be able to tell details that you didn't even notice at the time? I mean, it's obvious that I didn't even look at his license plate at all, is it possible that from the fraction of the second for which that car passed in front of me, I can ever be able to tell what license number it had, even if I didn't actively look at it?

My brother also has partial amnesia, he can't remember anything we did that day and he remembers partially what happened in the few months following the accident. Under hypnosis, could he be able to remember?

Are our memories stored inside our brains forever, and our conscience blocks them, or they really go away?

Also, if I do hypnosis now, is it possible for the results to be less good than if I would have done it immediately then?

I'm willing to do this now. I just hope it's not a legend or a charlatanry.

Hi Bredie, First of all I want to tell you how sorry I am that you and brother experienced such an unfortunate accident.

In answer to your questions: Yes, it is true that you can relieve a past episode through hypnosis and be able to recall speicific details, if you truly want to, when you work with a certified forensic hypnotist. Each individual responds differently and sometimes the emotional trauma is just too much for the person to relieve the incident, that's why is so important to work with someone is trained in this area.

Your memories are permanently stored in your subconscious, and when working with memory recall it is better to let time pass before the session than immediately after the incident.

As far as your brother remembering, one never knows until he decides to have a forensic session. I wish you and your brother continued good health and peace of mind.

All the best, Wendy

Thank you very much for your warm words and detailed reply. Didn't even know there's such thing as forensic hypnosis.

But if most answers are just a... trance away, why isn't it more broadly used? Is it acceptable in court?

Do you remember how your session went after you "wake up"?

Thank you again, Nurse Wendy. Love the picture .

Hi Bredie, Each state has different rulings regarding hypnotic testimony. I invite you to visit my website www.hypnonurse.com and go the forensic hypnosis page which I know you will find interesting. Wishing you all the best, Wendy
