It is truly incredible to be able to share good times and not so good times with others who face the same health challenges. And MDJ has support groups for every condition I have. I don't know of anywhere else that can offer that. I love that I can learn from others as well as offer my own experiences for others to learn from." (jaguarandcubs)

I've been once to a therapist that said I'm not hypnotisable. What I don't trust much is his method of telling, not his opinion by itself. He just placed his palms on my back and told me to imagine they are huge nostrils and I can breathe through them. By the movements of my back (I think) he could tell that I couldn't imagine that very well, and he declared I'm unhypnotisable or very difficult to hypnotise.

I'm now in a point of my life when I would want to try hypnosis to cure a phobia. Should I approach a specialist? I'm a bit scared, and not very well informed. Are there really people that cannot be hypnotised? And is his method valid and used by other therapists?

Thank yall.

Hi Ami, People who do not want to be hypnotized will not allow themselves to experience the process. Any individual with a normal IQ and a good imagination and wants to experience hypnosis CAN.

I would advise you to go to a certified hypnotist and discuss your goals. Feel free to visit my website and go the Facts page and educate yourself on the myths and misconceptions regarding this wonderful safe, natural and effective modality:

Of course this method is valid, it has been around since the beginning of time and yes it is used by professional therapists.

All the best, Wendy

could you please clarify, Wendy, what the difference is between the alpha state and hypnosis (or what the connection is, for that matter).

do you need special abilities to hypnotise somebody?

thanks.

Hi bono, I have pasted a link for you to read about all the various brainwave functions.

http://brain.web-us.com/brainwavesfunction.htm

When experiencing hypnosis you enter the alpha state (focused heightened awareness) which is similar to meditating.

As far as special abilities to hypnotize someone, you should have training preferably by a certified hypnosis organization such as the National Guild of Hypnotists.

Hope this is helpful.

All the best, Wendy

You might want to try another hypnotherapist. The method that you experienced was different than what I have been taught. Hypnosis is just a deep state of relaxation and should be a very pleasant experience. Anybody is hypnotisable as long as they are willing. The process of hypnosis is very effective on phobias. Good luck.
