Hi! I'm new to this forum.Got a ?. I take lisinopril, metoprolol 2x day, amlodipine. Was inside today doing the norm of house work.Felt like my heart was running away(got cardiac ablation done March 09-AVNRT).Felt odd.Checked my BP.It was 87/66 p 77.Checked 3 times and was abt the same. When stressed(bad news or discussions abt things I have no control over)my BP goes 180+/90ish.That is me trying to stay calm too.I also have other things going on like Pulm.Hypert.,T2Diabetes,Hashimotos Thyroiitis.Taking meds for all except no meds for PH. Why does this happen?Any ideas?Yes! Telling the DR when he sees my readings.Drops again and I'll likely call.Like it would help/ Usually my BPs are pretty good.111/80,120/75.Around those #s most times.Just thought I'd pick ya'lls brains in case. Thanks,Jackie Smile [img]

Not sure what to say about the dip in readings, but wanted to tell you that I was taken off lisinopryl because iot caused me to cough. Strange I know but once I went off it the cough went away.

My BP will drop low like that if I am coming down with something.

Sue

Thankyou Sue. I'm Ok on the lisinopril so far.Years on it now. This is not an emergency abt the BP. Just that I feel odd when it happens and I'm going out to mow our acre and last time I did the mowing the next day I was in ER.66/36 BP,sweating and out of it groggy with high blood sugar.Their insulin wouldn't bring it down either. They think it was heat exhaustion. Not being hydrated enough.Funny! I'd been real careful with that last summer.Knew what it could do.But that is what they said.Gnats fanny from being admitted. But 66/36.That is what I heard her tell the Doc.Husband was there too. Anyways..Thankyou Sue.Gotta go mow now.Temps are better now though. Smile Jackie

Hi piddler55.

You list what appears to be two items in your medication, Lisinopil and Amlodipine. Is your perscribtion a combination of both these items or are they seperate perscribtions?

I looked at the information handout that is given out with my perscribtion and on Amlodipine there is a warning about HOT weather increasing the effects of the medication.

Find your fact sheet (I save a copy with all my current Meds.) and review it.

I hope this helps.... John....Tongue

Guess I'll be calling the heart Dr monday as this has been happening a lot lately.I don't always grab the machine to see what is going on though. When it happens I feel a little light headed and weaky.laying down doesn't help though.Feel my heart beating hard and fast.Always remembering to stay calm so I don't make the whole deal worse. This was going on for an hour + tonight.Feel good right now.134/86 pulse 91.gonna go try to sleep now.nite all. piddler

Good morning, Jackie. I hope you're feeling better this morning. I've been on metoprolol for about 30 years and can relate to some of your problems with it. It was originally prescribed for me for a condition called pyroxismal atrial tachycardia, but I also take it for hypertension.

Before discussing my prolems with BP and heart rate, I have a few questions. What is the dosage of your metoprolol and what time of day do you take it? Do you take it close to meal time? Do you snack between meals?

I have a condition called post-.prandial hypotension. It's related to eating. Within one half hour to two hours or so after I eat, my blood pressure goes low--sometimes the diastolic gsld into the 80's, as yours does. After several hours, the BP goes back to my "normal." If my BP is low at time to take my med, I don't take the med. I wait until the BP is high enough. That messes up my schedule; I am presently trying to find a workable routine that will allow me to get the meds I need and avoid the low readings.

I don't know your age, but PPH is mostly a problem of older people. You might take your BP an hour or so after you eat and see if that's when the readings are lower. Also, I would not take my med close to meal time, if I were you. That's a double whammy to the system, if, indeed, eating does cause your BP to go low.

I am noat a diabetic, but I do have difficulty with sugar. Sugar and "bad" carbohydrates cause my BP to drop and salt raises it. So I try to control my BP, to some extent, with diet. Eating small meals rather than large ones helps me also.

Having said all this, before doing anything on your own, you should definitely see your doctor. No two people are alike. I don't have your problems and I'm not on your other meds.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience with you maybe to give you some further thought on the subject.

Keep us posted, and good luck!

Hugs,

Mary
