I'm 24 and I was diagnosed with HS about 2 weeks ago by my gyno. At the beginning of September I noticed a large bump on my groin area and went to the doctor for it. He said I had folliculitis and prescribed me many drugs. The bumps began to spread and so I went back. he said I had the same thing. I went to him 3 times and each time it was the same thing.

Finally I got frustrated when I had a total of 8 bumps, 6 around my groin and 2 on my butt. I went to my gyno and he diagnosed me. I am currently on doxycycline, which I don't think is helping very much.

Last night one of my bumps flared up and it hurt really bad. The pain wasn't something I was anticipating. I feel so humiliated and helpless. I know as of now it's incurable but I just want to know what to do to alleviate the pain and keep the flare ups down.

Hey, welcome to our little family. I'm new to the group as well (but not new to the disease.) There are a lot of things that help people, but every person varies. I've heard wonders about Tea Tree Oil, Hand Sanitizer, and Turmeric. I was also on Doxycycline, but it did nothing for me. I noticed when I ate a lot of dairy, it would flare up. I'm sorry you're going through this, but at least you found this wonderful group for support =)

Hi missjess and welcome to the group! Smile Sorry is is because of HS but glad you found us.

Casey (HSvictim) had some really good suggestions, and add to them the use of moist hot packs. Nothing takes the pain level down as quickly at that, for me anyway, and others have said the same. I just use a washrag and tap water as hot as I can get it, wring it out and put it right on the bumps. If your water is set too low, then you can always heat some water in the micro. It can also help those bumps that are needing to drain, do so faster.

The main thing to remember is that what works for one may not work for the next person. For instance,I use Cephalexin (Keflex) antibiotic and it works for me every time to keep lesions from abcessing when they get infected and start to blow up. It may not work for everyone and a different one may. Antibiotics are actually not known to help with HS itself, but can help with secondary bacterial infections which cause the abcesses.

I would really urge you to find a dermatologist or plastic surgeon who has treated HS to see if excision is a good option for you. The sooner the better before they start getting sinus tracts (tunnels) from one to the other.

All the best to you and hope to see you here often.

Welcome MissJess! W00t I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering from HS but I am sooooo happy that you found us here! Our little family has been the best source of advise, support, ideas and general care that I have ever experienced! I have been away for awhile, but am determined to jump right back into where I left off! Tongue

So, you are 24 and have HS on your groin and your buttucks. Are you affected anywhere else on your body? I am a 27 yr old female and I have it on both sides of my groin & my buttocks too! Grin I just love meeting people who make me feel less & less alone each day...!

I have also tried the antibiotics... I was starting one of the "cyclines" tetra-mino (IDK which one but it gave me a bad reaction) so then I was starting azythromycin and then my butt like exploded with a new horrible alien on Christmas Eve... and guess who had to ride in the car for 9 hours on that holiday weekend??? This gal! Silly So, regardless, by the next week I was in MAJOR agony and realizing that my pains were new & different and yes, it's because I had developed cellulitis on my HS alien (a severe infection) so I had to stop the 2nd run of antibiotics and start a new round of Bactrim-DS to kill that infection! So... we absolutely understand your frustration for medicines that do not do anything and doctors who do not "really" know what they are treating...ugh. Blush Anyway, sorry if I just chatted you ear off. I like to remind people that we are not modest here: so feel free to ask away with questions & I hope to hear from you soon! <3 Candace P.S. I wish I had an answer for your rain relief questions... because if I had the answer I would be a bajillionaire!!!! W00t
