Hello everybody, my names becki. Im 19 years old and have been dealing with HS for two years. it wasnt until september 2010 tho that i was diagnosed. i was told that i had two options i could have a surgery to remove the sweat glands from my arms or i could try antibiotics. i took the route of surgery. i wish i hadnt. all was fine afterwards except the scars are brutal and still open and as of a week ago i have new sores. i am scared and just really dont know where to turn to if anyone could give me advice it would be appreciated.

Oh Becki, I am so sorry you have had to go through so much and at such a young age. I also apologize for being so tardy in answering your post. I am usually on early but couldn't be today of all days.

It's too bad about the surgery not healing well. When did you have it? Sometimes it does take awhile to close up completely and heal. Can you tell us more about that, like what kind of surgeon you had and how extensive the area was?

It isn't uncommon for new lesions to develop again after surgery, but don't know if it is that common for it to happen that soon. I had surgery in 2000, and it didn't come back for about 4 years. I was so happy to have that long without the pain and mess.

Hope you will feel better soon. If you have other questions, or just want to vent or talk, please stick with us. There are some really great people in the group who can relate to your problem and will show up soon I'm sure. Been an unusually slow day for a weekday.

Welcome to the group and hope to see you again soon. Hugs, Karen

Thanks karen, its nice to know that i am not alone. HS was a part of my life since i was 17 i didnt know it at the time because i thought they were just boils cuz theyd come and go no problem until one day they started staying. they stopped healing altogether. i had 7 open lesions under my left arm varying in size the biggest the size of a golfball the smallest the size of a quarter. i started doing research and came across hs my hopes fell. because i read and read and read all that i could fine the symptoms the descriptions even the pictures nailed what i had. i took my concerns to the hospital (it took 6 different hospitals) they kept saying it was something else theyd give me medicine i have been on clindamycin bactrim cipro and countless other antibiotics the only one having any effect being the clindamycin so theyd give that to me id take it theyd go away but as soon as they meds stopped the next day id have sores the drs were baffled until i went to bethesda north hospital in cincy ohio i told the drs my concerns he took one look and told me hed refer me to a surgeon. my dr. dr. thibadeux does not specialize in hs but hed heard of and read about it. he told me that i was lucky to speak up and get it checked because i was at stage three and he told me if id left them for even 3 more months id have lost the nerves in my arms because the tracts and sores were so deep.

My underarms are nothing but scar tissue now. The surgery under my left arm was on september 17 2010 the dr. Removed the sores and sweat glands the hole left under my arm was the size of a softball i had 25 stitches. He said the hole couldnt be stitched it would have to heal from the inside out.I had the surgery on My right arm october 14 2010 it wasnt as bad i had 4 lesions much smaller but theyd created one big tract beneath the skin so he did the same with my right arm except he didnt remove the sweat glands. Surprise surprise tho here it is january almost february 3 months and im starting to get an outbreak under my right arm. It hurts so bad but i was on pain killers for so long they stopped working and i was starting to get addicted to them so i cant force myself to take any kind of pain pills. And if thats not enough its spread to my back my shoulders in particular theyre little bumps under my skin like cysts and theyre so painful....Its hard to cope with im lucky i have a fiance that understands and everything but its not the same as talking to somebody whos been where im at and going thru the same emotional rollercoaster. Lately ive been real down because i dnt want another surgery but in my heart i know its the only hope i have bcuz ignoring them doesnt work anymore. I think im going to call my doctor on wednesday and see if we can talk about my options. Im just scared and tired you know.? Im sorry for venting but its all just starting to sink in fully that this is permanent im not ever goin gto be able to have full use of my arms and its depressing.

Golly Beck. It's just awful what you have been through. I hope you can talk to Olivia97 soon or Lizabeth. they have both gone throught that same kind of surgeries, and have had ups and downs but like you, they just try to keep their spirits and hopes up for a good outcome in the end. I'm wondering if you've ever talked to a plastic surgeon about doing surgery? I haven't used one, because Medicare won't cover it, but I would if I could. If you read some threads talking about that you will see who has, and then you can pm them and ask for feedback. Let me know if you need help with that, OK?

I must get the hubs fed and settled now but will be on in the a.m. I sure hope you can get some relief and rest tonight. Hugs, Karen

Lol yea. I think i can remember. I did a lot better today. Im goin to call the dr. Wednesday and see if i have any other options besides another surgery. Cuz honestly the thought scares me. I think ill see if he can put me back on the clindamycin for a couple weeks and see if that works.

Hi...I had my surgery in the groin area at UC in Cincinnati...There is a doctor at Shriners that did mine...It was very painful and required about 30 staples down both side of my groin...I understand how you are feeling...During the first 10 days after my surgery, i really didn't think I would make it...It will eventually heal over...

I still am having horrible outbreaks now...
