Hi,

My Dear Friend lives far away and we stay in contact almost daily by e-mail, skype, and sending presents by postal service. I am happy that we live in a time of technology that allows almost instant communication.

For awhile, my friend was worried that he may have transmitted HCV to me before he knew he had it in the 70's. I got a free test at a clinic and my result was negative. Both of us were relieved. My friend is a joy to me and I treasure having a place in his life.

Recently my friend complains that his thinking seems slower, for learning new tasks at work and following long strands of numbers. He tells me that he believes this is evidence of HCV related cognitive decline. Sometimes he writes in dreamy psychadelic style and i have to ask him- what is up man, are you makin a story or telling me about what happened sometime?

He tried interferon in the 80's- it made him confused and unable to work, also violently ill with stomach cramps and vomiting blood. So that was the end of that treatment. Last year he quit all monitoring tests. the blood tests showed his liver function 'normal' for many years- then a biopsy showed advanced cirrosis.

I love my friend and respect his choices about treatment and monitoring. I will enjoy him as long as he lives, and long after he dies.

I understand each persons journey with this disease is unique. i just wanted to post and let you know how much friends love and appreciate their HCV positive friends.
