Hi..

For the past two years I have been searching for an answer to some skin discoloration I have under both underarms on my stomach and some on my back.

The color of the spots are a grayish with a purple hue flat like my other skin no different texture. My dermatalogist took a biopsy and said it was benign and that I had some sort of photosensitive reaction to something. We ended up being convinced it was a perfume I was wearing that sometimes causes skin reactions. Well, now I have the patches between my legs.

Back to the Dermo and she said same thing. It took me 3 months to get into another Dermatalogist and he said wrong diagnosis and mentioned hemochromatosis(going back next week for a follow up)

After being on the internet reading about hemochromatosis it could definelty be a possibility. My ethnic background fits the mold.

I have been searching for pictures of what people pigment looks like on the net but with no luck. I have seen a few with bronze diabeties which... I guess is the same thing.

I am having my iron checked tomorrow. I have no other symptoms.

Did anyone else find out about their disease by skin discoloration?

Do you have to have a all over skin discoloration?

Is it always a bronze color?

Thanks.

I am a 44 year old caucasian female.

hI, I have recently been diagnosed with haemachromatosis too, but really had no symptoms, it was discovered by accident, my twin sons have it too, and for a long time, but they have no skin discoloration, i have never heard of this being associated with HCM, I HAVE HEARD OF BRONZE DIABETES, BUT I ASSUME YOU ARE NOT GREY COLOURED WITH THAT

I was recently diagnosed, female age 44, also by accident, and have few, if any symptoms. I do not have gray or bronze skin (except for the tan I WANT to have), or patches. My impression is that may happen in later stages if undiagnosed, but I'm not certain. Your parents both either had it, or were carriers so you migt want to reflect on their complexions. Keep in mind that the ethnic thing isn't hard and fast___ my father was 100% Italian (last I heard, that was not considered Northern European)! UI have done a lot of reseaerch and I had not heard of the patchy thing, more of an overall skin tone.

If you iron is high, get the gene test! If discovered early, it is very treatable.

I can say for sure that if I am out int he sun too long, I don't tan--I get the color of a carrot (possibly bronze). My wife has notices patches on my upper legs (especially when I am the color of a carrot). I am currently monitoring them.
