craznish

i am interested in learning about eating for the treatment of specific conditions. for example, what specific foods are good for specific physical and mental conditions? i would like to invite everyone to join in on this discussion as well as ask questions.

i have read in multiple places that bipolar disorder has a connection with gluten intolerance, and thus, a gluten free diet is often suggested for those whom have bipolar disorder...

any thoughts on this or other conditions and the relation that food has to them??

This could be a good example of "We are what we eat". I have COPD and I have been trying to find a good healthy diet for my symptoms as well. So far I have just found to use common sense.

craznish I totally mean it when I say that I overcame depression and am no learning to control/contain anxiety by my diet (and exercise...aerobic and weight-training...can't do one without the other).

I stay away from processed foods, we do most of our 'cooking' at home...much of it raw fruits, assortment of simply prepared veggies and whole grains...lite on any sauces we use, too. Anyway, I'm pretty much depression free. My anxiety is so far reduced that I'm doing a lot I never dreamed I could. It seems to be helping w/IBS, too.

Hey Craz!

I can tell you that I think bipolar disorder...in many people...has to do with vitamin/mineral deficiencies and food allergies!

That said...I overcame my bipolar disorder (misdiagnosed was hormonally related)...anyway by eating organic foods. I got rid of the preservatives and food additives and within four months my symptoms were much...much better.

You can check out specifics at the Holistic forum. Honestly...I think that preservatives and food additives are THE MAIN CAUSE for many illnesses because they cause inflammation! Inflammation causes disease.

It's hard work because you really have to rework your entire life but the rewards are vast!!!

Hi, I'm new to this group, I'm usually over in the Diet Group. At some point in the near future, I'm planning to do a series of articles on a healthy diet, and then start focusing on eating with different health conditions. So, if you're interested, feel free to join us. I'd love to have you all. I will pop back over here and announce when I start the articles.
